Default 6.0 vs. 5.3 on the bottle?

im still up in the air on the direction im gonna go with on my lsx notch so i need some help. Heres the deal, 5.3's are a dime a dozen and only go for about $300 here in socal while the 6.0's are a pita to find and most people want about a grand for them. is the hp and torque difference worth the money? say they both had a mild cam and a 150hp plate kit? any help would be great.

I have seen a few 5.3 builds that made decent power. Ofcourse there is no replacement for displacement.

If it were me I would atleast try to do a 5.7. But if the 5.3 is all that is in your budget and you can get it cheap enough just use it to play with while you build funds for a better motor to build off of. YOu can still make decent power with the 5.3.. I have seen some impressive trucks..

thats what i might do. jus start off with a 5.3 and wait on the 6.0 just to get the car moving. 2900 lb. car with a 5.3 on a 150-200 shot should move pretty good.

Wile it a decent amount of cost difference( $700) it is worth it! I don't know the numbers but the 6.0 will have 300-345 depending on what year and motor you get. I am sure the 5.3 at most has 250? therefore it is going to cost you the $700 to get the same performance out of the 5.3 and then you are nearly out of options for upgrades just to match the power.

You can make a reasonable motor from the 5.3 especially if you spray it with 150 or juice but if you really want a killer motor you are much better to bite the bullet and start with good power before mods.

I was considering the same thing. Wonder how a 5.3 would like a custom cam with ported milled heads the truck intake and 150 shot...

Anyone have some experience with these? Could be done pretty dang cheap.

5.3's are rated at 280-300 depending on the year

I went mid-high 12's with a cam, milled stock heads, truck intake 5.3L in a 4300lb truck. So put that same setup in a much lighter, better hooking car ..along with the 150 shot, it's going to move out.

so far i have found 3 low mile 5.3's for about $300 each within 30 miles from me and a total of 0 6.0's inder $1200! I think im just going to go with the 5.3. I can buy an extra 2 or 3 5.3's and have them in the garage. That way i wont have to worry about hitting a 200 250 shot. Fudge it, it blows up ill have an extra 2 waiting.LOL!

That's what I'd do. 5.3's are so cheap---just spray the wee out of it until it pops and put another one in......and those 5.3's are tough little boogers too. There's a local guy around here that has an old gutted rx7 with a 145k junkyard 5.3 and 78mm turbo.....went 9.9x at 148mph this weekend.

I've seen quite a few stout 5.3 combos out there. If its something to hold you over then I wouldn't hesitate in the least to use one.

Lots of fast 5.3L trucks in the Rio Grande Valley.. I'm sure a 5.3 in a lighter vehicle would do damn well with a 150 shot.. I've seen some 5.3's spray a 200 shot down here.. Its all in the tune..
