the car is an auto. and my intentions for the car are mostly racing. dont want an all out drag car but a car that i can run on the street when i want. not worried bout daily driving it. i have another vehicle for my dd.

any cam you get you will need a convertor which will really wake the car up. I would suggest a 3600 for a street car. On top of this make sure you have a tranny cooler. I would get a custom grind by someone like Patrick G who can grind one for exactly what you want out of the car. Plus, you do one thing and you should really do another means long tubes and dyno tune after the mods.

Cam Gear and convertor will really wake up a Ls1 especually on spray. On an auto with 28" tires a 3.73 works well to keep some stregth o nthe gear( not much with a 10 bolt) A used 12 bolt would be the way I would go on a budget.
Like mentioned any cam really needs a convertor. a vig 3200 and a small cam in the 226 range will make a fun street car that pulls hard should run high 10's on a 150 shot. a little bigger cam, stall would et better but maybe not drive as nice on the street.

Shiz,
Pretty much answered all your questions.. I personally prefer a 3600 stall though over a 3200. Just helps it get out of the hole alittle better.
You really need to lock the cam decision in with the rest of a combo as a hole.
I would not come to the web forum for a cam suggestion. To many people do not understand combination and only know cams by the name the retail stores have given them instead of specs and the combination they work the best with..
I would line out the combo you plan to use.
Intake,
Heads,
Bottom end,
Tire size,
Rear gear,
Convertor,
Power adder,
Once you have a actual plan contact a reputable company that can spec out a matching camshaft that compliments your combo.
