Default Need some advice picking internals for a Nitrous motor

I am building a nitrous motor and want to spray in the 200-250 range on top of a H/C setup. I am reusing the stock block and crank. They've only got 17K miles on them and are in great shape. I'm just undecided on rods/pistons/rings.

For those of you who have done forged motors and are spraying now what would you recommend? I've heard some not so great things on Eagle such as their manufacturing tolerances and such... Not sure if it holds much truth but those are the kinds of things I'd like to avoid if at all possible.

Anyways, thanks in advance for the help!

I'm currently having a nitrous motor built. Keeping the block, and leaving it at 347ci. I'm using Callies Compstar rods (H-beam), Weisco nitrous pistons, and Total Seal rings. Something like this will easily take a 200 shot all day. I'll probably be spraying around 200-250 most of the time....bumping it up to 300-350 when I'm feelin' froggy.

The ls1 standard is comp star rods weisco pistons. eagle is fine but there stuff takes more prep form the machinest to get it right. compstar will come out the box pretty good.

I run Lunati crank and Oliver rods...... oliver has probably one of the best rods on the market... carillo makes good rods too.....

compstar and callies make some really good **** too....

Oliver and Howard rods are aguably the best rods out there for these motors. But, they are a little overkill for a 200-250 shot. My next "no-****" motor will more than likely be sporting Howard rods...but I'll be throwing a lot more than a 300 shot at it.

Is this a street car, or full race?

if it's a full race with no street time, I'd look into GRP alum rods, if it's a street application (making an alum rod a no no) lunati makes a good rod, compstar, oliver, carillo if you can float it. IMO, diamond makes a very healthy piston as well, wiseco makes a good solid piston too.

FWIW, back on topic my motor went together with eagle parts, not the standard eagle parts, but eagle parts regardless. Took more work to get them where they needed to be I'm sure, but if you have a good machine shop, they should be able to handle it.

The threads are old as dirt, so maybe the rings have been revised? https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ton-rings.html https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...eemed-fix.html Could've been crappy machine work like Shiz stated also..

It will be a street car. Not a DD. May see limited track time but not consistent.

I was leaning towards just going Callies H Beam Rods with the ARP 2000's and a set of -2cc Wiseco's. It sounds like that will be an adequate setup for what I'm going to ask the motor to do. Looking for low 10's...

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about the Total Seal rings... How are the Hellfire rings? Just looking for a good set of rings that can take nitrous (200-250) and not get upset. Don't want oil consumption problems or leakdown problems. Which I know is mainly in the machine work and break in...

IMO Callies crank and rod will be more that enough for what your asking and then some, I recommend using a Akerly & Childs rings, they are some of the best ring on the market with out the big price tag you would need a HTD top ring for the nitrous.

Wanting to keep the stock crank. But yeah, I've heard that the Akerly & Childs rings are pretty good.

I have hellfire rings in my motor, and I've had no issues to date. The leakdown's a little high now, but after having the motor together for 3 years and over 250 track passes over the course of 3 years, I don't think it's that bad. All my cyl's are around 18%, but they were about 12 % to start, rings were gapped for about 400 worth of nitrous to start so all things considered, I think it's right on par where it should be.

It's ready for a rering/rebearing, but with what it's been thru, that's expected. Hell I'm pretty happy with the fact that it's held up as good as it has.

I've got eagle H beams and Diamond -2cc pistons in my combo with Hellfire rings and it takes a 200 shot like a champ (******* 10 bolt... wish I could hook it like I want to). I'll be shooting 350+ through a direct port next year with the same engine (2 seasons old) and feel confident (no blowby, oil usage, etc).

Remember... People are making these motors live STOCK with that amount of gas.... just be safe with the tune, that's what determines wether a motor lives.

I'd say pretty much anything that any of the sponsors here can hook you up with will handle what you want to do as long as you have a GOOD tune up.
