Default Why not use pure oxygen?

If N2O is used because of the extra oxygen it introduces into the combustion process why not just use oxygen and cut the nitrogen out? It seem so simple but no one is doing it so I figure there has to be a reason why.

the nitrogen is nessesary to control and take away the heat. pure oxygen is the same as lighting a torch and would melt everything

That and when the bond breaks between the Oxygen and the Nitrogen it cools your intake manifold down by about 50* yet another bonus/power adder.

For starters, some of the reasons are; liquid oxygen is highly explosive. It's what they use in the space shuttle. Secondly, like previously mentioned you'd be turing on a torch inside the cylinders. Nitrous overcomes these hurdles; is alot safer and more practical to use.

"the nitrogen is nessesary to control and take away the heat. pure oxygen is the same as lighting a torch and would melt everything"

keep in mind that atmospheric air is mostly nitrogen and by using nitrous we replace most of the nitrogen with more oxygen. the thing is, you still need some nitrogen for the reasons stated above. and since liquid nitrous boils at -129* it has tremendous cooling properties in addition to the oxygenation it provides.
it is a difficult concept to grasp but it is actually more pracitcal to make more power with a smaller, but lager than atmospheric, concentration of oxygen

if I am not mistaken the guy who invented Nitrous Oxide, tried pure Oxygen first and blew the motor within seconds, this was back in the 40's I believe.
