Default first time on spray.

Alright so I picked up a bone stock 2000 trans am for a new project a few months ago. I finally got to go to the track for some base passes. A couple days before I went I put a lid and ram air on it. So the day of I got the itch to install a kit I had laying around. So I put the kit on in 2 hours before I left. So with all that said, the car went 13.40 on motor, and on the last pass I pulled some timing and hit it with a 100 shot. The car went 12.22@113. So I am very pleased with both numbers since the car is bone stock. Now I just have to put some colder plugs in it. And actually start moding it , and set it up to run on spray safely.

That's what I thought, especially for not being setup correctly. The kit is out of a friends mustang, its a wet kit with a fogger nozzle. I have a window switch in the car and is set to activate at 2900rpm and shut down at 5900.. I pulled the timing with a crane programmer that pulled 10% timing, witch I would think is ten degrees. I have a timing twister on the way. I think it probably gained so much because of the stock plugs. I ran 93 with a bottle of octane boost to try and compensate for the plugs, being it was a last minute decision.. this was my first pass in any nitrous car. I've always wanted to run nitrous, but never have. Needless to say I think I may be addicted...150 shot here I come. I guess ill find out how strong my 127k mile motor and trans will hold up.lol

Ya, I have a tsp 228r kit sitting in the garage, and a set 5.3 heads I have to get worked. I will be installing them later this season. I wanted to hit the motor with a shot first to see if the stock block was going to hold or give in. I don't want to put a brand new top end in and have the bottom end go.

Well, here is my 2 cents.
Don't spray anymore on those stock plugs.
Period.
Get some BR6ef plugs.
Don't spray anymore untill you figure out where your timing is.
That crane thing you used that took out 10% of your timing sounds odd to me, allthough I am sure someone on here is familier with it.
For now, I would monitor this thread untill someone chimes in to guide you in the right direction.
I just don't want to see your car spending the summer in the garage with a busted engine.

Yes I know I was taking a risk.. it was a last min thing. I have the plugs now and a timing twister on the way. I will be upgrading the fuel pump when I put my rear in. I also will be upgrading to a nitrous daves plate kit soon. This was a last min impulse spray and was one pass. I purchased the car for a track car and got it for pretty cheap like 2700, so wasn't to worried if I hurt it. That would have just gave me an excuse to build a bottom end before I put new heads and cam on this old stock shortblock. Thanks for all the feedback, I'm very impressed with the results of the n2o so far, I hope to be h/c/i and n2o by the end of the summer with full suspension. Hopefully it will turn some good times.

Nice gain with the 100 shot -- 1.18 seconds off the quarter time.

As the others stated, now that you know what it will do, get it setup properly for spray. You're on the right track with plugs, timing twister and a fuel pump.

Thanks. I've got a garage full of parts for it now. I'm going to start modding it and see what they each gain me. I'm on the look out for a n2o daves plate kit that is priced right, at the moment.
