Where are all the "purpose built" NOS race cars?
This conversation from another post got me thinking, why we don't see any hardcore, purpose built NOS cars like we see with the FI cars?
Where are all the hardcore NOS guys? Why are there not more? Wouldn't a bulletproof, high CR 408" motor, with todays camshaft/head technology, a killer fuel system and a HUGE shot of nitrous (300-500) in a lightweight, drag setup car be able to run with the hardcore turbo guys (Ohio Boys, "Wormboy", Harlan, etc)? Just thinking out loud.....

If some one were to build an all out nitrous car today, I would bet money on it that it would hang with the FI cars. The LS1 technology has advanced greatly from 3 years ago when ARE was running mid 8's. If someone were to step up to the plate and build a light all out nitrous car with todays technology, they would beat the ARE record and be right up to par with todays FI cars.

It's doable but I think it would be hard in an LSX platform, 2 Carbs, Gasoline, 4XX CID and Little Chiefs properly put together would do 1000 HP at the Crank N/A out of an SBC and even with a 300 shot that motor would probably fall short of the fastest turbo LSX based cars. Not to mention all that Nitrous would be extremely hard on parts. My $.02

Two years ago, turbo cars could barely get out of the 10s, everyone kept saying how "LS1 head gaskets won't hold". Look at them now. I definitely think the head, camshaft, and NOS technology is there, it'll just take someone hardcore to try and do it IMO.

I don't think there are available parts yet to make enough power Naturally Aspirated or on Nitrous to keep up with the Turbo cars. It's not like they are getting any slower either. I'm sure we'll see some of them brake deeper into the 7's. The ETP castings and Edelbrock single plane are a right step however it'll take a ballsy combination that is purpose built to try to come close. I am not saying it's impossible, but it's going to be hard.

I personally believe it just comes down to money and the "drive" to do it. No one has yet had the drive WITH the funds.
I know I have plenty of drive, just the funds part has me on hold! Anyone want to help????

If somebody with lots of money wants to own one of these cars and let me drive it, shoot me a PM. We've got some great ideas, but I'm too poor to race a car of my own. Damn school. LMAO!

i'm hoping to go mid 8s with my new nitrous setup once i get it all together and running. but just today i was thinking about going with a twins setup for some reason that nasty little thought popped into my head. my 408 is setup totally for nitrous right now, gas ported pistons, nitrous solid roller, etc etc etc...we'll see how it goes.

See everyone is talking about 1/4 mile here and how the FI guys are beast on the top end. My money is on an all out nitrous motor in the 1/8, then we'll talk
There are plenty of all out nitrous cars out there, we just dont like to brag about it.

Mine is semi "purpose built". I do plan to lean on it hard to reach 900-1000 rwhp. Unfortunately any real ETs will have to wait until the Th400 goes in. I have some goals id like to reach for myself first.
I do think the addition of the 7.0 and 6.2 heads will close the gap for nitrous cars a little. But ultimately the turbo guys can push harder IMO.

I'd be happy to hear about a nitrous car that can run the number - who do you know?
