Default Bottle Mount Question

hey guys, i was going to throw my 15lb'er bottle in the spare tire compartment, but I figured I would get tired of having to take off the plastic molding to show ppl my bottle

i've decided to mount my bottle on the flat spot right behind the passenger seats. Not down low where ttops go, but the platform up high.

How can i secure the bottle mounts? What is underneath there that I have to worry about when drilling? I think the gas tank is right underneath that, but how much room do i have to play with?

thanks guys

not much, as in an RCH worth. you will need to drop the tank to get a good hold on those brackets...

I have mine mounted where the t-tops go, it fits great there, plus, if u are going to use your blow down tube, you can just drill a simple hole for it right there.

If you wanna ride around with the t-tops off, you can just take the bottle out, or leave it in and put the t-tops in the back seat, just bring a couple of bigger towls to wrap them in.

You can take some 1/8 thick sheetmetal 2"x 6" and weld to nuts to the plates.
Space these nuts to match your bottle mount holes. Lift up the carpet. Then drill 4 holes in each plate in the corners. And use a short drill bit or put a stop on the bit. Drill your holes in rear area and use pop-rivets to hold in the plates.Lay carpet back down and use short bolts (1/2" w/ washers) to bolt in the mounts.

I just used some bolts turned upside down and welded them to the floorboard, cut holes in the carpet so the threaded ends poked through, placed the bottle brackets over the bolts, then bolted everything down. It's worked fine for three years so far.

My way is less invasive and requires no welding. I mounted my 10# bottle up there. I used a 3/4" peice of ply wood and cut it to 10"wide and 17" long. I slipped it up under the carpet that covers the gas tank hump, positioned it the way I wanted it. I next put down masking tape on the carpet on top of the ply-wood where the bottle brackets would be mounted and marked my holes. I next drilled pilot holes (being careful to stop the drill when I went through the wood) and used 1" long lag-bolts to bolt the brackets down and It works and looks very nicely. Since your bottle is longer than mine you'll have to mount your bottle sideways and remember to face the lable to the front of the vehichle to position the siphon correctly otherwise it will get in the way of the t-top storage area ( my10# bottle barley clears mounted verticly). Hope this helps .

Metallicamat,

One more note in the infamous RCH, they are slightly thicker than your average CH..........

This may be a tad off topic but let's try again.....

If I told you to pick up a "rack of pounders" what would you get?

lol yes i get the rack of pounders

as far as how i want to mount it, i was thinking maybe i would let the valve hang over into the passenger seat..well i would have to

i'm going to tinker around with it some more, i just don't really like mounting it sideways

Ricky[/QUOTE]

You've never done this?! The heavy carpet and insulation get sandwitched between the bottle brackets and the wood. In essence the carpet that is secured to the car keeps the bottle from moving at all. This works really well and has'nt been a problem @ all, I'm sure I'm not the first one who's done this either.

I know you guys probably dont agree with the way I did this but It's worked very nicely so far and is pretty dang sturdy. I do have an aquaintance who's built 2 nitrous Cars in GMHTP magazine and (1 featured on the cover), I discussed mounting my bottle this way with him one day in the staging lanes and he thought it'd work ok. Anyway, I just wanted to show you how it looks.
