Default Burst Panel

Anyone running these? Do they actually blow out for a true backfire?

Reports are mixed, sometimes they work other times the manifold will explode with burst panels still intack. So, it may help with a little hic-up, but big time back fires will still blow it apart?

i installed 2 of the wilson's resetting burst panels, under $200 protects a $3200 Hogan sheet metal intake. if my burst panels didn't function then i would be calling the vendor to understand why they did not function as designed. just my .02

I would imagine it would depend on the volume of the backfire.. If its just a little burp from one cylinder, they should work.. If you have a few cylinders that blow, then kiss the intake and everything attached to it goodbye..

there was talk by a few members here a month or two ago of cutting the bottom off a FAST intake and reinstalling it using springs. Basically if the pressure in the intake was too great it would push on the bottom against the springs and open up just like a giant reusable burst disk. I don't know what ever happened to the idea though.

If you were really worried about it, drill a hole in the top of your intake manifold and attach a blow off valve. There's your FI for ya.

I thought it was spring loading the mounting bolts. That way when the motor backfired/loaded up the springs would allow the manifold top to unseat and vent the pressure. Then it would semi-reseat itself

I know there is a burst panel for the sheetmetal intakes that works, but I forget who makes it. the thread you guys are looking for was started by NXRicky.
