Anyone run Spray on a boat?
Im wondering how it works?
im guessing i would have to over prop the boat so it would lower rpm on motor so when i spray it i would be at my proper rpm. question is, how much would i have to loose on motor?
if i hit my boat with 100 shot and say it picked up 5-7 mph and all i had to do was prop it to loose say 1-2 mph i might be ok with that. that would put me at the 70 mph mark

I work at a marina and yea your on the right track, over prop it 2 pitch so if you running 25's run a 27 pitch or more, Make sure you use stainless steel. Also you will need alot of spray because well boats arnt cars haha. I recommend Presion propeller(SP?) in Indiana for anything custom you want, they could prob get you 3MPH without spray by just tweaking the prop.

a buddy of mine did on his blown pickle fork hydro. It really didn't help much. Spun the prop so fast it cavitated. The plan at the time was to make it come on in stages. I think it got a bit too complicated for him (10 years ago) and he tossed it.
I did get to ski behind his boat... once. That's the reason I now drag my knuckles.

MMMZ, i run a stainless 4 blade now. the 3 blade would pick up about 2 mph, but i like the ride and handle of the boat much better with the 4. this winter im going to be getting a lab finish prop from merc (ive seen poor stuff come out of some shops, so i will stick with merc) im hoping that will pick me up 1-2 mph, im putting new exhaust on it today/tomorrow, so im hoping that will gain me 1 mph. so with those tweeks and a few other little things i did im hoping to be around 63

Cavitation is what you'll have to worry about. If you can keep it from cavitating AND keep the prop in the water, you'll be OK. Keep in mind, it's a boat so water is your traction. Nitrous boats tend to want to jump out of the water; if you come out of the water, you will instantly over rev. I'd definitely have a window switch on it. Maybe the lake you are on is smoother than ours and you can easily stay in the water so that may not be an issue for you.

as for traction, i run a 4 blade for that reason. i love the traction it gives the boat, and the way the boat handles is way better, so im ok with the loss of 2 mph.
as for max rpm, the boat starts beeping at me at 5k on the tach, but has a rev limiter of 5250. i find in most conditions the boat runs fastest right on the 5k mark

I watched Miami Vice last weekend and between that movie and this thread I've been thinking about picking up some sort of speed boat. Any of you guys know of a good forum to start reading up on them?

I guy I used to work for had a pickle fork Jet boat (21' Liberator I think)with a 540" engine that ran pretty good. It was years ago but I want to say the boat ran in the mid 80mph range, I always like riding in it but from what I remember the jet boats are more limited when it comes to top end mph than prop boats.
I wouldn't mind finding something like that to play with. I will check out the forum you posted about and start doing some reading. Thanks for the link.

yea, depending where you want to use it, i like an outboard for a pancake style boat, but the roost from a jet drive is unbeatable!!!
good luck

You would have to over prop so much the boat would be a dog off the bottle. say you are running a 21 pitch very close to max rpm now well on the bottle you will be well into the limiter. If you repitched to 24 to stay off the limiter the boat would be a dog getting on plane and probably run 600-800 rpm less wot off the bottle.

Robert, thats nice!!!!! more pics?
Z28, i was out last night and trimmed up, the 4 blade on the boat now was bumping the limiter. the boat kept going faster and faster as i trimmed it, but rpm kept going up and up. then boom, limmiter kicked in. if i could bump the limiter 200 rpm i bet i would pick up 1-2 mph. the boat picked up 2 mph from 4700-4900 them kept climbing till it hit the limiter
