about to purchase 2 new rear tires..need your guys/gals help
this car is a daily driven car and will see little track time this summer. i will be staying stock size 275/40 17s. Now my two finalists are
- 275/40/17 BFG-force T/A KD -or-
- 275/40/17 Nitto 555R drag radials.
now my question is on Discount Tire the speed rating is "275/40R-17 93 B" R (rated to 106 mph) now i dont usually push the limits but if i do get in a race on the freeway chances are i might hit over 110...and i want a tire that can safely do that..i will be ordering a pair tonight so please help with my decision! suggestions and comments as well as your personal experiences would be appreciated!!! thanks
traction is LIMITED in 1st through 2nd gears.
my mods: Long tubes, catted y , hooker catback, U/D pulley, M6 3.42s stock 10 bolt. later on this summer a cam will be going in
AND HOPEFULLY by summer i get enough money for a bucket to drive in the awesome rainy season
thanks again for your help!!!

KDWS's are nice all around tires I had a set and liked them. For Dry weather Daily driver with Careful wet driving Nittos are by far the best tire I've personally ran on an F-body or Vette. (I've ran alot over the years with four 4th gens a vette)
I personally will not buy anything else for my car. If I lived in Florida or TX with the flash flooding I'd be a little concerned in the winter, but the drizzles Portland gets the Nittos are actually BETTER than the all season tires, its just in standing water that care is really needed.
This has been my experience, I hear horror stories about guys loosing it in the rain. **** I drove my 315 nittos in the SNOW one time to get something eat. I had the blazer I just did it for fun went on the back roads and it hadn't iced up yet but still had fun in the big parking lot
The nittos wear pretty well too considering. I figure 10-12k out of any tire I run on these cars in the rear and the Nittos are fine at that mileage I usually sell them for 125-150 and buy another set!!

The 315's I had were on the WS6 so they were on 11inch Fikse's. The 275s would fit on the 9-9.5 inch wheel. THE ONE bad thing about Nittos is they run narrow. a 275 Nitto will be narrower than a BFG or Yok on the same rim I think thats why guys get away with 315's nittos on 9.5 wheels. But Nitto does not recommend it so I won't do it.
If you had 11 inch Zr1's in the rear the 315's fit fine if your lowered you have to hammer in the mounting tabs of the body on the inner fender and I think with ZR1's you have to cut or roll the fender, with the Fikse's I did not have too...
Hope that helps.
It sounds like in your case you want to run the 275's, another choice is a RII which will have the stickiness of the DR with the stiffer sideway of a KD. But they are about 80 bucks more for the pair than the R's.

Yep although the DR under 80 is pretty damn good in the handling department. When you first get them you will notice the softer sidewall at speed after awhile it just seems normal. You'd loose the softer sidewall so they wouldn't be quit as sticky but the tread and compounds are the same on the R's and RII's.
I don't know on a 17 inch wheel it doesn't really matter that much. If you were running 245/50/16's then it would probably be noticeable. I know the 305\18s DR's I had on the Z06 didn't feel soft at all at speed.

Of the Two Choices I would go with the RIIs. If it was open I would say the F-1 GSD3s...only because they do not make GS-Cs any more
I have had great luck with the RIIs on the front and back. I just do not have many choices at my current power level
YUP! those are my street tires on the rear of the car

i am using BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD's in the back 295/35/18... Never used nitto can't tell the difference, but this tire is ok... The reason why I am using is it was cheap [250$ pair shipped, NEW ]
However as Ellis said I would recommend Eagle F1 GSD3, especially if you live in WA

Well Ellis and I have disagree'd before and so we do again KD's absolutely DON'T suck ***. They are, in fact, a fantastic tire ..... for the application that they were intended for, which is road racing. For a street only/drag car then yes KD's would suck ***. They are a road race tire and have to be very hot to perform well. Notice they have a 180 mph speed rating ? On a road course nothing with tread will touch them. On the street you'd never get them warm enough to do you any good, and no, a quick burn off isn't going to be enough. The RII's or the GSD3s would be my choice for your intended purpose .... OK so I'm agreeing with Ellis
