Spray Painted some wheels!
My little brother had some scuffed up wheels he wanted to spray paint himself. So I told him to sand them down, clean them up, tape them, and i'd spray them for him. With a spray can, of course. So i sprayed them with gloss black earlier today. They came out pretty good for some cheap spray paint! (Obviously there is a little bit of dirt in the paint, from not spraying it in a booth) Check it out..

It's the reflection of the tan ceiling in my garage, and i didn't use flash. The wheels are black black. Maybe not as dark as your 9 coats of paint, but it's pretty black. Not to mention, it was only $10 in paint.

It didn't take too much sanding. He had some scratches in the paint, so he used 320 over the rough spots, and did the whole wheel with 800 grit, then scotch brite after that. It might have taken him about 3 hours or so. Then I just cleaned them up, and then Painted them!

why did you go all the way up to 400? If you are going to go over them with a couple coats of primer, then just sand up to 220 or so and spray away. The primer will fill in those scratches with no problem.

yea, 320 was all it needed, and i shot these without any primer. I just sprayed over the smoothly sanded black powder coat finish. None of the scratches were deep enough for me to worry about using any primer/filler.

If it was my personal car, I would get the wheels powder coated. Especially black. Silver hides a lot more, and you won't notice many scratches in it. But the quality of a Powder Coated wheel and that of a rattle can painted wheel, is incomparable. These wheels I painted for my brother, DO look good, and should look good for a decent amount of time. (As long as he keeps them clean, and doesn't spray them with any chemicals.) But eventually, you will see scratches in them over time with these. The finish of Powder coated wheels last soo much longer. But like I said, that is just me. I don't like things that lack in quality. My brothers Jetta on the other hand, is a totally different story. (No offense to him) haha
