Default tranny shifts early, even after ls1 edit!!

I have a 2002 trans am ws6 with the g5x2 cam and patriot performance 5.3 stage 2 heads. i have the rev limiter set at 6975, and the shift points are set at 6600. if i put the car in drive, and stomp it, it shift at around 5500 rpm's. i still have my mph shift points at 1st=37mph,2nd=76mph,3rd=127mph. do i need to up those, cause i want to be able to put it in drive at the track, and it shift out at 6600. i am new at ls1 edit, so please help if you can with any advice. i have been having to shift it through the gears by hand at the track to get it to shift at 6600, but if i shift into 2nd at 6000, it will go to 6900 and hit the limiter, and 2nd gear i shift at 6000, and it wont shift to third, unless i let off the gas and let it shift. so i ran a 12.43@109.54 and the car didnt shift into 3rd, so i know it had a lot more. please help

what I'd like to know, is why does the pcm make our cars shift early after engine mods ?? I recently did the LS6 conversion, and my car no longer shifts at 6000 rpm, like it used to before. Now it upshifts at 5500 rpm. Is this related to torque management ??

EXACTLY whats been happening to me. I assumed it was shifting early because I changed my gears and the CPU was not calibrated correctly...But the 2-3 bounce of the rev has been persistant...even changed the tranny because i thought it was just slipping. Jay Fisher Pontiac said the tranny pan was a good place to start as the pick-up had nothing left to pick up fluid wise by the time I got to my 2-3. Says the 98 Tahoe pan (with darian) is sloped foreward may fix it...claims hes done it several time to fix the issue. I tend to think its computer related, but I had a pro tune...though on a dyno, not at the track.

No answer huh?

I am having the same issue. No matter where I set the 1-2 shift in EDIT. It will shift @ 6000

I want to shift between 6300-6500

I am going off of HP Tuners but ensure that your Performance Tables (WOT Shift Speed vs Shift) and your (WOT Shift RPM vs Shift) are set to what the transmission would shift @ for the speed and RPM for your gearing.

To answer your question about upping your speed, I had to do this for my 94 to get it to hold the gear as I was obtaining the speed before it would hit the shift RPM I wanted to and it would shift to the next gear.

I didn't think our PCM's used that table. But the shifts are closer to that table then the normal or hot tables.

I'll give it a shot, thanks.

I would increase the numbers up to 40, 80, and 135. I've got mine to shift at 6600 and it does perfectly.

It does look like it follows mph instead of rpm. Mine was already set to 40.

The PCM follows MPH via the "Shift Speed vs %TPS vs Shift" Tables. FOr non-POWER mode selectable cars use the Normal table. Also remember to set the Hot Shifts. If your Tranny get to hot (as in 1 or 2 drags) it will revert to the Hot shift table.

The WOT shifts should be the same for both Normal and Hot Shift modes for cars with non-POWER selectable shift modes. The car will not shift under WOT until both the MPH and RPM are met.

Then I am not sure what is going on. I don't mess with the "Normal Mode Shift Speed" or "Perf Mode Shift Speed" tables for WOT, just part-throttle.

I just changed the normal and hot settings on the "A4 Shift Speed table".

I have always set Normal and Hot. Before FI everything worked fine. Since the FI install, the RPM settings don't seem to work except for on the street.

I had mine tuned this past weekend and it shifts late. It was shifting around 6200 which is perfect! Now it hits rev limiter at 6500 and still doesn't shift! The tuner tried to say that my transmission had some age on it and that they shift late when they get some age on them. I am not sure about that! I lowered my shift points to 5500 but I haven't tried it yet!

When my stock tranny started to go, I had that problem.

Thanks for the encouragement!

The transmission feels fine, There was no metal in the pan when I changed the filter the other day. The only thing that happen was after the tune the WOT shift points changed. I have made some adjustments, but I haven't had a chance to try them out yet.
