as long as the vcm id number in your pcm doesn't change you'll be fine, when you license your vcm you aren't licensing your vin number, you are licensing the actual vcm itself. If someone flashes in some random file with a different vcm id number our software won't recognize it as being one you have a license for and will ask you to relicense the new vcm id number and is the reason I recommended tech 2 or mongoose as they won't affect the vcm id number.

I was always under the impression that it required special software to change the VCM serial number, if it was easy to change wouldn't everybody be out making all the VCM serial numbers the same and cheating everybody's license scheme? I know when you buy a dual flash setup, they match the VCM numbers in both chips and can even make it the same as the original chip, but I thought they need a special programing set up to do it.

PS Why was my last post deleted? This isn't the HPT Forum so why can't facts about the HPT licensing system be shared here.

Thats only a HPT limitation as in their infinite wisdom they decided to change the seed key when you implement a custom OS. For an EFI LIVE COS you can full flash over it if required with any other tuning suite or Tech II.
