Default Numbers are awfully low after tune...what's the deal??

I just recently rebuilt my motor (LS1) and I sent it to Kaltech in Long Island to get tuned. After tuning it on the dyno Brian told me it only put down 385 rwhp. Here is a list of my modifications and let me know if you also think that number is way too low. I don't know what kind of dyno he has or how good his tunes are but if anyone else had their car there tell me what you think:

[LS1 Motor]

- LS7 Lifters
- Crane Pushrods
- Patriot Gold Springs
- TSP 233/239 Cam
- TSP True Dual Exhaust w/ Dynomax Bullet mufflers
- Pacesetter Long Tube Headers
- FAST 92mm tb
- FAST 92 Intake Manifold
- 42 lb injectors
- Casting #799 Heads (stock)
- Stock Rear
- T56 Transmission

auto or manual? 10 bolt or 12 bolt? underdrive pulley? lid? are the heads ported/ milled/ valve job? stock head gasket?

are those numbers standard or sae corrected?

they aren't horrible depending on the above questions...this would be better suited for the dyno section too I would think

6 speed manual. Stock rear. MLS Head Gaskets. The heads are not milled and are the same as 243 heads. Stock Lid. I just think for that set up I should be making at least 415rwhp.

Even if its a mustang dyno I agree you should be somewhere around 415. I put down the same numbers as you with a slightly smaller cam, LS6 intake & stock 241s. What timing chain did you use & did you degree the cam?

Stock replacement timing chain, not a double roller. I didn't degree the cam, just lined up the dots.

Are you sure you got the right pushrods? Did you measure the preload to make sure they aren't too short and not opening the valves enough??

How long before you get this motor mounted back in your car? You can't always rely on dyno numbers, 1/4 mile times tell no lies...

I dont live on the island, I live in Rockland. I have been waiting on the car for almost 2 months now. I had vacuum leaks so I ordered the FAST intake and 92mm tb to fix that. He tuned it on the dyno, put down 385, and said that the idle still seems to surge every once in a while. It jumps 300rmp for a second or two then drops back down. I put alot of money into it and was hoping for at least 415rwhp. If you can check it out that would be great, i'd appreciate it because if he cant figure it out I dont know if I can.

The pushrods are the same ones Texas Speed sells in their cam kits. They are 7.4

I have a BIG H/C setup, full boltons, exhaust, UD pulley, double roller timing chain, whole fuel system is redone; pump, injectors, rails, etc.. and I only put down 410 at Kaltech.

Not to mention he moved my throttle cable to the higher position (WAY too much slack) and my full throttle was actually like 3/4. I saw your car there.

After some researching....

"if the heads are off of an LS6 and have the lighter valves, then yes stock length. But if they are 243 castings off a 6.0 then they have regular valves and will need a longer pushrod to keep the geometry correct The valves stems are longer on the lightweight LS6 valves to make up for the reduced base circle of the LS6 cam."

"My understanding is that the 799 head is the same head as the LS6 243 head. If I remember the history correctly, the 243 was the initial head for the LS6 and made in Canada. The 799 head is possibly made in Mexico and used on 2007 and later LS2s??"

Just an idea...

I would check pushrod length

i believe the 799s were also used on some 5.3 trucks. regardless, i think pushrod length needs to be checked since ls7 lifters are being used. if they are too short, its the equivalent of running a much smaller cam which would explain being down on power.
