Default Turn off VATS/Security

I did no work to my car today and went to start it and nothing. After testing the VATS/Security system nothing is working and car wont start. If i put the key in the ignition and turn it to "start" the security light comes on and starter wont engage. If i keep the key in the run position and wait for the light to shut off, the car fires right up and will run/start as long as i dont lock the car. Any help would be great please give me something. Can the VATS or security system be shut off inside the computer????????

You can shut vats off with HP tuners. If that's what you mean inside the computer..

Can you explain this further? And yes VATS can be tuned out very quickly with HPTuners or EFILive.

What was happening is if I started the car using the above process it would work. If I shut it off and pulled the key out or locked the doors it wouldnt start again. I changed out the key cylinder and ignition switch (PITA), this seemed to fix the issue. When i go to get my car tuned for the cam and other parts Im putting in it I want them to disable the VATS though.

Why didn't you just do the 99cent bypass if you're going to disable vats anyway?

That's for swaps; tuning the PCM doesn't eliminate the BCM from the car, it's key-check, or it's starter disable. Tuning out VATs just tells the PCM not to cut off fuel in the absence of a BCM and/or it's signal.

sounds like it was a key cylinder issue since it was fixed when he replaced that. So a 99 cent bypass was all he really needed and never have an issue with the key check again. 99% of the time that's all that ever fails in a vats system anyway.

take the resistance of the chip in your key. goto radio shack. Spend 99 cents on a resistor pack that matches the resistance or a combination of resistors that do. Solder them in place of the wire going to the key lock cylinder that contacts the chip in your key ... done. Now your VATS always reads the correct resistance no matter what the lock cylinder reads.

it literally takes about 5 minutes and about 99 cents. Completely invisible and wont wear out.

Back from the grave. I have VATS disabled through HP tuners, but when the car is in park with no alarm on, the battery gets drained just from sitting after about 5 days.

Should I bother checking to see if their is a drop in mA when a certain fused is pulled or is this a common problem related to VATS and BCM?

Car should be able to sit 5 days no problem. Yeah, you have something you need to look into.

5 days battery dead, mine does this because of headlight won't return to rest position, you can't see it. Just unplug it til I can fix it.
