car running rich - bad MAF
I descreened and ported my maf over the winter while installing long tubes, now my car runs extremely rich between idle and 3K, it always runs fine for about 10 seconds if I flip the key off and then back on quickly. But after driving for about 5 miles it does correct itself till I shut the car off. Would this possibly be a bad MAF, or could it be rich because of the header install? TIA

Porting always makes MAF read low (causing lean
operation) unless you damaged one of the sense
elements which should set a code I expect. The
headers' effect on O2 sensor output is the more
likely cause of over-rich operation especially at
idle & low end where there is not so much exhaust
heat output.

I was looking at swapping the MAF just to try it. Is The SLP unit similar to the stock one? By that I mean will it cause it to run much different over a stock unported unit, cause I noticed the SLP one retains the stock like bridge through the center, and the screen. Mastronardi, did you notice a diffrence, or anyone else tried one? Id like to order the SLP one instead of going through a dealer.

The '01/'02 is "close enough" to stock. The '98-'00
that they would probably recommend for you will
be leaner. Going from ported to either will probably
add to any current over-rich condition. I think the
MAF is not contributing to over-rich except perhaps
at WOT, by jacked fuel trims. I think you need to
hook up some kind of scanning / logging and see
what's your situation before you buy.
