Default HELP PLEASE!! i need help from a hptuners guru..

hello. thanks in advance to any help!

ok, here we go. i just recently bought a 2000 a4 corvette vert. it has shorty headers, no cats, ud crank pulley, ported ls6 heads, ls6 intake, 80mm tb, cold air, full exhaust, built tranny and vigilante 2600 stall.

i thought it had the stock tune in it because it has codes for rear o2 sensors as usual, and has problems with tcc unlocking while cruising from the misfire code cause by the stall and the ud pulley.

ffwd to now. i purchase hptuners, install it to laptop and eagerly sprint out to the car to retrieve file...... ehhhhh nope, its tuner locked.

after 5 attempts just to be sure, i say a hand full of choice words, then admit defeat and go back inside.

now i am stuck with the options of spending 100+ dollars on having dealership reflash the computer, or use my extra computer on this car.

it is a computer from a 2002 m6 corvette. my problem with that i believe is that it has no parameters for the tranny. so after hrs and hrs and hrs of research, i find myself here.

i have a few questions, if i put a automatic tune file in there for a 2000 a4 corvette, will it work on that ecm, or do i need a 2002 a4 tune file. or can i have someone copy over the a4 transmission portion to my tune file.

long story short, what do i need to do exactly, to be able to swap ecms and be able to tune my car.

i read many posts where a few guys on here, (im assuming they specialize in this) ask the person for the vin and they will put the vin into a valid file and give it to them.

i hate to ask for favors but i am in a hard spot....... so here we go.

can someone with the ability, set me up a file for my 2000 a4 that will work in my 2002 ecm. i can provide the vin if needed. sorry for the hassle but i dont know what else to do.

I just found something very interesting. I hooked the 2002 computer up to my jeep. (LSX swapped and easier to access)

I pulled the file and it appears as though I can just select 4l60e from the drop down menu and make it an a4 computer?!?!?!

Can anyone confirm this before I buy the license for this ecm?

No, you can't just select a 4L60E to convert the tune to automatic.
The operating systen in the PCM is for a manual car and it won't control the 4L60E so forget it. You need to get an automatic file and write entire. A 2002 file will work good and it is slightly better than a 2000 OS, but you won't be able to change the VIN to match the vehicle.

My suggestion is to get a 2000 A4 file and write entire to the spare PCM then start tuning. It will cost you 4 credits to do it.
Post your tune. I may be able to help you.

I can unlock your PCM and send you the tune, you only pay the shipping.

It has all the tables for a 4l60e, all are populated with values that look to be for a stock a4 car. There is a option box to turn on the prnd21 display, and anything you can possibly want.

I finally found one thread at hptuners website that a hptuners guy said that you can actually change the selection from manual tranny to 4l60e and be fine. I am just wanting to confirm.

I don't believe that Is 100 percent correct.

If it already has all the tables for 4l60e and are populated with the correct values. What would it hurt to run it on this tune. I have to modify it anyway for the mods I have.

It is 200% correct. Try it and see, it won't work.

Under the calibration details it shows what trans it set for. The wiring harness that runs the 4l60e (shift solenoids and such) uses the same pins on the PCM as the T56 harness that has reverse lockout and CAGS. You have to have the correct trans calibration for it to work.

ok, sorry to be so stubborn. i got all wound up and called my fairly local tuner. he told me it would work... i went ahead and installed it.

i downloaded a 2000 a4 file and manually swapped all the info on the 2000 a4 file that was different then the 2002 m6 file.

so far it runs ok but like you say the transmission isnt right. first will not ingage and it will stay in whatever gear you select (ecept 1st).

so hopefully i didnt **** anyone off by not listening, and maybe i can get some help.

if i post my hpt file, can someone please swap the segments that i need?

please please please help me out here.

Best option, IMHO. A bit of a wait, but probably the least $$$. And least amount of HPT credits used as well...

It is possible to do. Segment swap to the 2002 computer. It is very common. I just have to wait on the people on hptuners forum to get on and reply. I found out also I can email hptuners support with my two files and they will do the segment swap.

Sure, but then you still get to deal with having a tuner-locked PCM...and whatever credits you used to license the locked PCM in HPT are now worthless.....as they are now associated to a PCM that you will never use. If you email Bill at HPTuners, he can easily do the segment swap for you...if that's the way that you decide to go.

You pretty-much have all of your options in front of you now, so you just need to make a choice.
