Review of HP tuners after 24 hours
Got yesterday, and installed, went smooth
downloaded stock bin off of computer, and worked good
Running a 150mhz laptop, took 10 minutes to pull stock file, not too bad. Remember i have a 98, so its slower.
Went to edit bin, error, got resolved within 4 hours from Magnus, good customer service.
Went to open tuner, and look around the GUI
Everything seems to be easy to access, ect. I don't own edit, so i can't compare features, but it appears to have the main tables i was looking for.
Did some minor changes needed for my car, fan temps, cags, ect..
Uploaded, took 0:36 to upload... i was AMAZED at the speed.
Went for drive, everything seems to be working correct, no cags, fans come on sooner, ect.
Next day. Friend comes over, faster laptop, with generic serial to usp adapter, connects fine, pulls stock file in under 3 minutes (600mpz laptop) Do the changes necessary, delete codes from header install, cags, fan, egr, o2 ect. Reflashed the computer in 0:36
Overall, great product, and fair price.

That 150MHz is between "barely worked for me, at all" (100MHz)
and "no worries, if you give it all the RAM it will hold" (266MHz)
I've been using. You may be stuck with the low speed comms
for PCM reads but my experience is that the other stuff worked
OK even with lame hardware. The logger will probably want you
to not be displaying gauges / tables, to keep up with data stream
but I think will be OK if you do that.

Ryan-
My laptop is a 1.2GHZ.
Oh, and my CAGS light is still coming on. I can't verify if it's making hte solenoid active since I have the resistor in, but from the way we set it I would think the light wouldn't even come on...
edit- Just verified in the bin, for some reason the change didn't save. I probably forgot to hit save changes on that tab. :o

i have yet to find a con in it... pros are it's extremely fast, safe to use (no fear of killing your PCM), and not VIN locked... amongst other things (also includes a really fast scanner software so no need for autotap)

While we don't support USB to Serial adapters, many of our customers do use them without problem. Just stay away from the Belkin adapters. They have been known to create many issues.

USB can be kind of "needy" from what I hear, and
is not to be depended upon, being "real time"
responsive. The better your CPU, and having
USB2.0, the more this would be relieved.
If there are some "known good" USB-serial adaptors
that would be a good thing to have in the FAQs
on the hptuners site, but maybe they don't want
to be getting into recommending specific hdwr.
People have had Belkin problems on other tools like
EFILive too; it's not software specific as much as
cheapo USB specific.
