LS1 - Running bad - Chance of help from scanner?
My LS1 (2004 Corvette motor) is running poorly: misses, rough idle. ONe time on slow accelleration it made a bunch of popping sounds, sort of like a back fire, but not loud: pop,pop,pop...pop...pop...pop,pop...
I did not have engine test light on, but I did a code check and a P1518 codes in it. That indicates possibly bad gas pedal, Tac Module, or wiring.
I did change the gas pedal, no help. I'm actually thinking wiring.
But, having cleared the code, it has not come back. When I hook my code reader to it ( it gives no indication of problems: no misses indicated, or other issues. Given that I'm assuming that taking this to a shop to hook to a computer would not be able to tell me which bank or cylinders are missing, etc.
Just wondering what anyone thinks. Is there possibly value to taking it to a Chevy dealer to see if they can tell me anything?
I'm expecting I'll be chasing some wiring. Hoping maybe if I can find which cylinders are missing or any info, it might narrow down my problem.

I was surprised that the ODB tool doesn't show mis-fires.
One question...did you experience the popping I described?

I would start off scanning your O2's and look to see if they are switching.

Update
I changed out my plugs. That appears to have fixed my problem.
It's interesting. I've never had that dramatic of a problem with bad/old plugs. I had not given the plugs a thought as I had only 28,000 miles on them. But, once I thought about it, while there was only 28,000 miles on them, they were 10 years old.
I did get a BT scanner. Haven't yet hooked it up to see how it works.

full tune up, fresh fluids, and plugs would be an excellent idea. At least then you can log the mileage and know what has been done.
for a fuel system cleaner, I recommend chevron techron complete. Also double check the rotors and pads. Fresh brake fluid should also be done. Or anything that doesn't show up recently changed.
