Default Hypertech or Predator

I have a '99 LS1 Trans Am that I drag race in the ET Bracket wars. I am looking for a handheld because I don't have the knowledge to go any farther. What would be your recommendations? I am looking at firming up the shifts and trying to make the car more consistent. I like the feature with the fans on the Hypertech and don't know for sure whether the Predator has this feature or not. I also like the Predator because you can adjust the timing and fuel curves. What would be everyone's recommendation?

Thanks

Predator will do everything Hypertech can do and much much more. If your going to get one or the other, get the Pred.

Hypertech is hyperpoop. Just say no. If you have to get a handheld, get the Predator. It has a lot more features. It even has a cool name.

ditto to above... the hypertech is a POS .. only useful if you can get it for like 50 bux and only need it to change gearing, A4 shift points, and fan turn on ... their power tuning is a joke, and it's pretty worthless all together...

Predator is MUCH better than an HPP3

What about the Vinci? It or Predator? One more thing: does the Predator have the function to control the cooling fans?

Out of the two get the predator. You can also get diablo custom tunes built for your mods.

Does the Predator have the feature where you can change the coolant fan's "on" time?

Temperature, yes.

I believe though that you are only looking at a difference
of about $100 between handhelds and HPTuners. Don't
let the Dreaded Learning Curve dissuade you from going
for the real deal. You can always smarten yourself up,
but you can't smarten up the handheld toys. Used laptop,
$400. Tuning software and cable, $500. Being able
to pull the log up from your last pass and see what
went on, and adjust for it while you're idling in line for
your next turn - with access to everything - priceless.

The Predator is a very nice little tool. It's a great way to get started to find out how far you want to go with this. It does do all the things you are asking about. You can look at my mod list to get an idea of how far it will take you. And even tho he isn't a sponsor here, buy the Predator from James @ RunninWithTheDevil. He is by far the best for getting you custom tunes (for free!)

Hey Jimmy, how good are you at tweaking in than A4 with a 3k stall via HPTuner? How much trouble is that? I'm about to make that Dreaded Learning Curve plunge & you have never led me astray.

I've played with mine quite a bit and have it tuned up to
suit me very well. My choices might not be for everybody.
But I have hosted an Excel sheet with all the tables so
anybody can cut-n-paste (no model lock problems).

Once you get ahold of kickdown tables your life will have
new meaning

you can pickup a used HPP3 for $150-175 and sell it for that much.

Predators need to be sent back to the MFG for reflashing before someone else can buy/use it. and they charge $75 i think.

i boutght my HPP3 for $175 and sold it for $175. it was great for that price imo. the power tuning worked for me. i think it just raise your timing by 2*
