Yep, there are some who lock it

A guy in this thread claims there's a way to get around locks, but I haven't found information on how that can actually be done:

The way to do that is simple. Ask the tuner not to lock it. I'm not being a smart *** but I just inquired about that with a sponsor (no name as i do not know if he is doing it just for me).
basically I wanted a close tune that i can fine tune and save as my base tune.
The sponsor said he will do that using HPT, that way any further upgrade can be done via e-mail if necessary (in case I can't do it myself).
I'm a newb at HPT tuning and this gives me a chance to learn but have a tune to fall back onto.
Try calling Tex Speed and work a deal with them one on one.

well I called Brian at TSP and he said they dont puck locks on their tunes but he thinks I have a bad pcm It was a while back when I got the tune so I guess it went bad somehow, I first thought it was a software problem but we tried it on a buddies 02 and it workrd perfict so I guess the pcm is the only thing left and it sucks becouse I have lost a $200 tune or buy a used pcm and keep other for a backup
