strange problem setting speedometer with hptuner i just purchased the 2000 year for my hptuner to tune a buddies car for a 3.73 gear change. i typed in the tire height of 24.91 and the gear as 3.73 and selected "calculate for new values". i then go to save changes and the VSS output pulses/mile goes from 4000 to 8000 everytime no matter what i do. ive looked at several other bins from 2000 and 2001 and they all say 4000. his speedomer reads REALLY high.
when i had the scanner hooked up the guage display seemed to be reading the mph correctly, but his speedometer obviously wasnt. before we touched anything his speedometer was just a lil off from the gears. ive made these changes on my car with no problem in the past and i have no clue why this is happening. i noticed if i dont save the file when prompted , then it will say 4000 the next time i open it, but if i save , it will always go to 8000 no matter what numbers i put in and try to save. anyone have a clue???

You are looking at a different one from him. He is looking at Output PPM and you are looking at pulses per mile

ok i sent the file to ken@hpt and he wasnt getting the error im getting. im thinking my install is the problem. im installing my original 1.7 cd, then installing the 1.7.3 update i just purchased for the 2000 yr. i have a cd with my 2.0 update on it and when i install that i dont even see VSS output pulses/mile listed in the speedometer section.
can someone tell me the exact order i should install these, and what i should do to make sure i have ALL previous installs out of my comp? ive used add/removed programs and removed everything and reinstalled a couple times.
ive also burned the file and transfered it to my other comp that has just 2.0 on it and made the changes , then sent it back to my laptop and it still screwed up. i am pulling my hair out....

i just installed my original cd and the update for 2000 yr on yet another comp that has never had hpt on it. i then put his bin file on that comp and same problem.
then i downloaded someone elses bin for a 2000 Z28 with a 2.73 gear. this file says 4000, i changed it to 3.73, hit calculate for new values and some numbers change but the 4000 doesnt. then i hit save changes and it goes to 8000 and i see a quick flash of another small screen. seems like if i download someone elses file and dont touch it im good to go.

i would really appreciate that. i need a bone stock bin with just the 3.73 gear change. if you could make this change for me since im unable to for some reason i would GREATLY appreciate it. this is my first tune for an actual customer and i want this guy to be happy. im using 24.91 as the tire height.

im using version 1.7 till i can figure out how to properly install my 2.0 version with the update i just purchased. when i received the update it said to use my ORIGINAL cd then install the update afterwards. but too install the 2.0 you have to delete the 1.7 version. im confused as hell and am probably making it harder than it is.

this was his stock file. i thought it would be harmless to adjust his speedometer since i have done it before with no issues on my car. guess i was wrong.
the only thing i can see wrong is when i view the bin with version 1.7 the VSS output pulses/mile is at 8000. every bin ive looked at has that set at 4000. if you view the bin with 2.0 you wont see that # either way. when i try to take anyones bin and change the speedometer it forces that number to 8000. i can make it 9000 and save it, but not 7999 or lower. im going to try flashing his car tonight with 2.0.
if that doesnt work ill either refund him and get a dealer reflash or find someone with a bin with 3.73 gear only. i cant beleive something soo simple has become this complicated.

i suppose he could, but 30 min before it was only 5-10 mph off from the gears. i tried again tonight with his car, no luck.
what i tried is reinstalling the 1.7 then the 2k upgrade i purchased, same problem. then i uninstalled 1.7 and the upgrade, and put 2.0 in, wouldnt validate license without the upgrade. so i installed the 2k upgrade with 2.0 still in, and when ever i try to open bins i get errors. hpt says you have to remove 1.7 to install the 2.0, so what is the correct way to install the 2.0 and the upgrade i purchased?
i dont think thats my prob though. i tried 3 diff comps and many different bins, it did the same thing with the VSS. i sent his bin to you and ken, niether of you had any issues with it. seems like its just when my software is used. i need to find a stock bin and have it changed to 3.73 by someone else, or get a dealer reflash. i find myself eyeing other threads already, the words "ease of use" sound awful appealing at the moment.
