Wideband help needed - is this normal?
Hey guys,
Be gentle, this is my first wideband. I just installed a AEM EUGO in my car and it does something kind of odd. At steady freeway speed the gauge oscillates between 14.2 and 15.2. It reads rock solid at WOT. Is this oscillation normal? Is my gauge jacked? Any help would be appreciated!

It is compleately normal. My aem unit also does it on my 4.3L s10. At part throttle your compter runs it slightly richer than 14.7, then slightly leaner than 14.7. The nature of the stock o2 sensors is that they read accurate at 14.7 air fuel ratio, then anything richer or leaner gives a very large swing of voltage. It is the comptuer's way of checking that the o2 sensors are still reading, and reacting to the engine.
There are no sample rate changes if it is the same wideband gauge that i have.

It does not have an adjustable sample rate. Here is a link to it if you are curious:

I'm sorry I thought that you had a wideband 02?!? Are u just using an indicator to display your stock Narrow band values? I would agree that they (stock n02's) are only accurate at 14.7, thus the whole reason for going wide....?!? I have a LC-1 from Innovate used in conjuction with EFI Live and I can see everything, not just 14.7

One more note, if your MAF is enabled then this all makes sense. While in Speed Density mode- no MAF my readings are rock solid. When the MAF is enabled then I get the swing set stuff.

It is a wideband with it's own Bosch sensor. I have the rear sensors deleted and no cats so I used one of the rear bungs.

Closed loop, the nature of the system the car runs a little richer, then a little leaner, richer, leaner to get the Catalytic converters to operate properly, as well as the fuel trim data. once you force the car into open loop, it should be solid, MAF or no MAF

Sorry Slow, what I meant to say was exactly what you said. Closed loop- dog chasing it's tail- although, not as bad after AutoVE tuning and MAF massaging with EFI Live. And you are also correct about open loop just doing what it is told to do.

My car is in open loop and it was still doing it. Interesting note though, I just blocked off my borla catback today so all the exhaust is going throught he muffler, and the WB was a lot more steady. It seems that the backpressure helped some.
