Default HP TUNERS - runtime errors...can't connect

Trying to tune someones car over the weekend and it keeps kicking me out while trying to read the PCM. Says some type of "runtime error". Everything in the help file says its a problem with my computer. I've checked all my port settings and I've used it on 3-4 other cars before/after this and have had no problems. It's just on this persons PCM only. The PCM still runs the car so it's not fried or anything. Even tried moving the PCM to a different car. No dice. I'm using HPT v2.0 on a 2001 F-body.

What's going on here???

runtime error suggests a problem with the software...but the fact that it only occurs with one kind of pcm suggests an incompatabilty problem. post up in the hptuners forum and post the version of hptuners and the year/model of car your connecting to.

what OS is on hte laptop? how fast is the laptop? Have you contacted support at hptuners dot com (that should be the first point of contact since they're obviously more familiar w/these errors than us)

Are you reading the PCM from within the editor? (or are you trying to use the old 1.7 seperate read/write program?)

I have contacted HPT and am waiting on a response. I'm running a 1gig pentium laptop, windows XP pro, 512Mb RAM.

I am reading using the seperate read/write program. I was not aware of the read utility in the editor.

the read/write is all in the editor now...dont use 1.7 separatly...i believe hpt even recommends you removed 1.7 all together.

I'm going to remove everything tonite and reinstall the new v2.1, then I'll try the read utility in the new editor.

cool.
once you get used to it, you'll like it.
hit Ctrl+R and read it, change something, hit Ctrl+W to write... change something else, hit Ctrl+W....

no more save, open flash program, write it, go back...

now if only i could swap between the scanner and the editor easier.... sometimes i forget to disconnect the scanner, i get a error because the scanner is using the cable.. so i have to goto the scanner, disconnect, then go back to the editor.....
