Default Best PCM to buy? Stock?

I've heard the stock PCM is good up until about 500 ponies. Is there a better one to buy? I am still stock but plan on mods such as a TR224 and long tubes

The stock PCM can handle a lot. The stock PCM can handle the TR224 and LT's easily.

you might want to consider how much the dyno tune is vs owning your own software. If I had it all to do over again, I wouldn't have spent the cash on a dyno tune.

From a beginers standpoint yes, a pcm is a pcm waiting to be programed. However, the 1998 pcm is all by it's lonesome and the oldest of the litter. What year of vehicle do you have?1999+ are interchangeable as far as wiring in the car, plug and play. The 98's are a different story. Many on this board have very fast 98 cars with just the stock 98 pcm reprogramed. If you decide to go further into it than just the LTs and cam you might want to study up if you have a 98. EFI Live has some really cool custom operating systems that in order for you to use you will have to have a 99+up pcm. Do these cars need the fastest most complex computers to run- no, the watch on my wrist has more computing power than the Apollo program that went to the moon and it still made it there and back. Just a little background for those interested.

Sweet. I will have to pick up a stock PCM somewhere then. Anyone got them for sale or know the cheapest place to get one? When I bought the car the previous owner had put a JET Performance chip in and I heard they are not tuneable.

take a look at wait4me's sig (post 11). He can hook you up.

I can testify the stock pcm is good for more than 500 hp.

So what would be the best program for me to go with? I heard the handheld tuners had limited capabilities and I am sure i'm gonna wanna play with it a whole lot if I can. So what program should I go with for my laptop tuning? What seems to be the easiest to use, and which is most detailed?

That unfortunately isn't a cut and dry question that will be answered. Several like HPT and several like EFILive. I have personally used them both and I like EFILive for my application. Easier to use, more features, more functions, and the main thing is the customer service. From the guys on here to the very knowledagble forum on www.efilive.com you will not be left out. If you have any questions regardling EFILive, please feel free to PM or email me and I will answer them to the best of my ability.

Thanks!
