Cleaning 02's with a propane torch
Anybody try this? I'm pulling a P1133 and my O2 sensor only has 3k miles on it. Car is running sorta rich now. I've heard that this can be done or is my O2 doomed. Any instructions on how long it should be heated, what part of the flame etc.

No seriously, Excess carbon will burnoff at in the 2800*F Flame of propane with pure oxygen. This is probably too hot but for a short amount of time it will burn the excess carbon from the sensor. Anybody know the temperaure limits of the sensor?

I figured it couldn't hurt. P1133 is the slow switching code. And it seems logical that slow switching could be caused by excessive carbon on the cermic doodad thinga'majiggy. What was your technique Spenser309. How long did you heat the sensor? What part of the propane torche flame did you use?

i used the middle whitish blue part, and held it there for a long time. In fact i held the o2 in a vice, and posistioned the torch so that i didnt have to hold it while it was doing its job. Took about a min. Then i tested it using the gas, place a voltmeter across the two terminals that send the signal. see the free air which should be 0 or close to it. then put the flame up to it and found a 800mv signal.

I'm gonna give it a shot tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens. Should I reset the DTC after I clean the sensor or should I just allow the computer to figure things out.
