Chip my Camaro
Yo peeps,
I'm looking to buy a chip for my camaro, i've heard real gains of 15 to 20HP? I know people are known to overexagerate, so i'm looking for some feedback as to which company i should go with and actual realized gains. Thanks for your help.
Peace

you can't chip an f-body (not since 93)
those gains are generally very rare w/handhelds
Best bet for actual power is to either tune yourself, or get the car dyno tuned (or if there's a local outlet that does "street tuning")

covers most of the options out there
If you're stuck on a handheld Vinci or Predator would be your best bet (HPP3 is a joke)

it's one thing to have a little fun... but some of the posts I removed (especially the last one) from this thread were just ghey....

Your gains will be dependent on your modifications...if you have headers or a cam obviously you will see more power from a tune than just a stock car.
But don't get me wrong, a good tune is important any step of the way...in my opinion if you are not familiar with tuning then go see someone for a good dyno tune..

Just like stirring the pot a little from time to time...
Before you go buying a "chip" (or lack thereof as Horist eluded to), ask yourself how far into mods you are willing to get. The PCM can compensate for minor bolt ons pretty well by itself, but once you start getting to things like headers and so on, you can get into a bit of a bind. There are many reasons for this (none of which I feel would add to this very basic thread).
If you plan on modding your car to the hilt, wait on the tune until you at least get a cam. If you are just looking for bolt-ons here and there to give you the edge at Sonic on a Saturday night, it really isn't worth it. Handhelds are next to worthless IMO, and dyno tunes may not be the best either (after looking at some "professional" dyno tunes where they clearly have no idea what they're doing). You can always get the software and learn yourself, but that is a more expensive route, and the learning curve is steep.
I dunno...figure out what your end goal is for your car, and let us know. We'll guide you from there.
