Default Software upgrade on my PCM

my sister's boyfriend's brother (got that) is a mechanic. He speciality his with computers. he has been trained to work on GM, Mercedes, BMW, and others to see if they have compture problems or what not.

he told me that he can scan my computer with a scanner, import that data into his laptop that has the software form GM. He then said he can see if there are any updates for my computer ANYTHING.. he can put that on the scanner and put all the new info on my computer.. Sounds like a plan??

he gave me a for instance:

during a cold start he can see that cylinder 2 misifres till it is warmed up and gm has a fotware to correct that.. I think it sounds legit. Said that he has updated his yukon many times..

so what do you think? what can i gain from this???

you won't gain power from a factory update.

Correct, it makes for a good starting point.

I personally like starting with the stock file for you starting point, vs somebody's messed with tune.

I checked once and there were a couple updates for my car, never bothered. I always return my tune to stock before going anywhere near the dealer just in case they decide to update it without letting me know.
