Complete newb with HPTuners, need s/d help
I was kind of thrown into this whole tuning thing, and straight into speed density for that matter. The car that needs to be tuned has a stock tune in it now, though it was somewhat tuned before. When it was a stock tune before, it wouldn't start at all... or only for a second. It has a Trex cam, 90/90, LT's, and duals. So of course, when the stock tune was flashed back in, it acted just the same. Well, I tried using some tables out of a tune with a milder setup, and it acts just like the stock tune did... it will start for maybe a second, and just dies, and it smells VERY VERY rich.
I made sure I turned the maf fail frequency to 0, and I deleted my P0101-03's. I didn't know if I needed to do both, but I did it anyways. I have been searching and reading a lot since then, and figured out a couple things to try.. but I wanted to get some opinions on my situation. I'm very determined to learn this stuff, but I was only given like 2 days to learn the program and try my first tune. Someone please give me some advice before I go crazy!!!

Bi-Directional controls are very helpful at the start of tuning to get an idea of where things need to be - especially with getting IAC steps inline.
To get it running, try this starting with the stock tune...
In your base spark tables (both), add 4 degrees to the cells less than 1200rpm and less than .24 grams/cylinder. You may also need to bring the high/low spark tables in line with this change as well.
In your VE (and Backup VE if it's pre-'01), try multiplying the following RPM columns (entire column) as follows:
400RPM x .5 or -50%
800RPM x .7 or -30%
1200RPM x .85 or -15%
1600RPM x .95 or -5%
I'm assuming you are using the NBO2's to tune part throttle??? You'll have to keep an eye on the STFT's and LTFT's once you hit closed loop. If you see anything max out, shut the car off and adjust accordingly.
Give this a try along with increasing your Base Running Airflow as follows:
-40 - add 7 grams/second
-04 - add 7 grams/second
+32 - add 7 grams/second
+68 - add 7 grams/second
+104 - add 6 grams/second
+140 - add 4 grams/second
+176 - add 3 grams/second
+212 - add 2 grams/second
+248 - add 2 grams/second
+284 - add 2 grams/second
Also, if you haven't drilled or adjusted the tb set screw yet, open the set screw a little so that your IAC steps come down in the scanner.
