Default cheatr cam and air fuel ratio.

I have a cheatr cam/head package and originally I was concerned about smelling gas after the install. Now after reading about tuning, I'm finding that I should probably have an air/fuel ratio of 13:1. My tuner said that he put my car at a perfect 14.7/1. Some articles say that this is optimal and that the stock computer fights to keep this ratio. Others say that this is unsafe and that I'll be replacing my engine within a year. Do I need to take this thing back on monday and have it retuned?

yeah you should be between 12.6:1 to 13:1 14:7 is when you just cruising around. If your @ 14.7:1 under WOT your going to burn a hole in a piston since the car is way to lean.

Thanks man, I'll take it back up there today. It seems like he should know this. He says he's tuned dozens of ls1's. Could it be that since my engine is now basically an ls6 with ported stock heads and a cheatr cam. I started with the ls6 bottom in my '02 and added a set of stg 2 patriot 243's. I didn't know if stock ls6's had 14.7:1 or what. Excuse my ignorance.

14.7:1 is stoichiometric which is perfectly normal for 99.9% of your driving...the other .1% is when your at wot or in pe.

I do hit WOT about 3 -4 times a week during an occassional mustang siting. So, could it be that he has tuned it for 14.7:1 for idle and that it is different for WOT. I do want the car safe and I'd rather loose some horses than risk losing the motor. I saw that Thunder tuned Pat G's cheatr package to 13:1. While I understand ratios, I'm not sure if the A:F ratio can be changed for different throttle positions. I have run the car 4 times without a problem though. It did backfire once.

If he wants to set your WOT to 14.7-1 AF, get another tuner...

So it is possible that the AF ratio is set at 14.7:1 for idle and something different for WOT? Not trying to be annoying just trying to get my facts straight before I go and make demands that are unwarranted. I was thinking of going up there asking for 13:1 but if the a/f is set at different things for different throttle positions then that would be stupid request.

yes, more then possible, its normal practice to have 14.7:1 at idle & part throttle & a completely different # at wot.
