New pcm question?!?
I just got a pcm from wait4me and in the instructions its say the SES light will come on and that a crank position relearn will have to be performed. What is this? Does autozone or somewhere like that have a scan tool that can do this? Will my car run bad before I get it done after the pcm install? Would it be ok to drive it somewhere to get this done after the pcm install?

Hi, It wont Run bad, It just sets up the pcm to detect miss fires correctly and other internal calculations in the pcm. We dont have a distributor on the engine so we cant set up for 4 deg base. That is why i force the data to flush and then it starts over. It can be done with anyone that has a good scan tool. It takes less than 2 minutes total. Thanks

Yes a dealership can "do" it with their TechII tool but they will probably charge you an hour of labor since it is not a very common request. Maybe you could talk them into helping you out, like "Hey come on, how much money do I spend on GM parts a year here?" Where are you located in OK? Maybe someone local to you could pipe up. If you were in NE Florida I'd do it for free.

I went to the dealership and they guy told me it was going to be 1 hour so $75. I was like aer you kidding me. It will take you 3 minutes. I got him to just charge $36 which is still to much but better than $75. I went to a performance shop and he want $36 as well so I guess the dealership is that high.

Crank Relearn is done at high RPM fuel cut out. This gives the engine stability at high RPM, without spark or fuel variables involved. The actual procedure only takes a few seconds as once cut out is reached the procedure is immediately stopped to prevent overrevving. This is done with a scan tool that has Bidirectional Controls which Autozone doesn't have.
