Default Tune or not to tune...

When i get back from the beach i am ordering a pair of longtubes, a lid, an ls6 intake, probably going to port my TB, new plugs/wires, having a custom y-pipe installed(maybe an electric cutout) and deleting the EGR & AIR systems.

IK that i would need a tune for the EGR and AIR and header codes, but what could i gain from actual tuning? i don't plan on installing a cam anytime soon unless something in the valve train breaks and i have to get in there.

Thanks a lot,
Michael

yes I would tune it... There is much more stuff that you can do like deleting the rear O2 sensors, changing your timing advance, messing with your rev limiter, speed limiter, and other things... I would definitely do it...

Ok what would be better for me to do, pay somebody to dyno tune it? or get efilive/hptuners and do it myself?

Depends on how committed you are to learning to tune, or not. I got my start by deciding to dial in my own car on the dyno. I think most other tuners will probably say the same thing. ;-)

But beware, once you open pandora's box, you'll suddenly feel like your car is *never* spot on. ;-)

EFILIVE allows you to download their software and try it out as a demo.

FWIW I did those same mods at one time to a previous 98 I owned. I had enough driveability issues after that I had to tune it. Some of the newer cars respond better than the 98s do

From what ive read, atleast ik the 00' trans am's had a bigger cam than the 01-02, is this true? if thats right won't i have more hp than a normal bolt-on 01-02?(after my boltons/tune) or no, i'm guessing if they have a smaller cam its because they had the ls6 intakes stock instead of the ls1 intakes.

Its always a great idea to maintaIN a good runnign vehicle. With the upcoming mods you plan on putting on i would definately get a tune. We use EFI live here at the shop.

is there anyone that sells a cable that i could hook up to my comp? and maybe a demo to try out a program? instead of jumping into a 500$ program and end up not liking it?

thanks,
michael

Unfortunately that's the cost to get stared. The only way would be to find somebody to sell you their cable and software, used. Or somebody who'd loan you their setup.

It used to be easier on the OBD1 LT1s where you could buy a cable for $100 and software for $100 and get started. When they went to OBD2, the cabling and software requirements got much more complex, and expensive.
