Tuning Question
I just did a cam install. 230's duration .6's lift. It is running very very rich, like brings tears to your eyes rich, and thats through cats!!! I have a tune scheduled for next Thurs. I have 60 miles on the new cam, and I know driving it that rich cant be good.
For my information, what kind of damage will being that rich do?
Next question is once the tune is done, lets say I go to an even less restrictive cat than I have on there. Will that blow the tune I had and have to get it done over?

With a high lift / longer duration cam, the VE of the cylinders isn't as high at lower engine speeds - the VE table will have to lowered in these ranges to reflect this loss of efficiency - that, along with some other tweaks will take care of your running rich condition. A good tuner will be able to do this with no problems.

Well this is interesting,
I have no smoke that I can see, except the light smoke from start-up, getting the condensation out of the pipes. I say its rich because I can just about watch the fuel gauge go down now. No complaints as its not a daily driver. Also I'm not feeling the gains I thought I would. Been my experience that being too rich makes the car fall on its face.
I have a tune lined up next week, so its going to take some restraint not to drive it till then.
Never been through the tune process before. I talked to the guy and he said he needs me to drop it the night before so he can do a cold start tune. I get the impression it could take all day? No complaint if it does, just want it done right.

I know its definately going on the dyno, I also believe he does some work on the road as well. He has been highly recommended for my area, and has done some work on my car before, so I know he'll do the right thing

Well its not being driven again until the tune. I have 97 miles on it the way it is to make sure the cam spins off any loose metal. The oil is changed and she's parked until then. I hope that 97 miles wasnt enough to do any damage!!!!
