Here is one of those junk 3.8s.

http://www.fquick.com/videos/First_3...the_8%27s/3331

And there are plenty of average guys in the 11s. There was one at my local track with full bolt ons and a cam running mid-high 8s (same that stockish ls1s were running)... Then added a turbo on around 8#s IIRC and was running high 7s-bottom 8s.

Regardless of the power it's making, this is a cool project. I'm sure it's a fun DD and is plenty quick for that. Last time I checked, a car didn't need 400+ hp to be fun. There is something to be said for veering off the beaten path.

I love the 3.8 motors, but I've never considered them a performance motor naturally aspirated. I think it's pretty cool that you can get that sound in your clip + extra power while still getting the gas mileage that you're getting now.

More power to you man for taking the road less traveled, and just disregard the naysayers.

The 3.8's are pretty strong for a V6. I was in the 14's with bolt-ons and a tune.

He loves his car and it is really cool what he is doing. I would talk to him about his car if I saw it in person for 4 hours before I spent 5 minutes on your everyday Formula, plus he is knowledgeable. He knows it isn't fast and doesn't ever expect it to be. For what it is, it runs very good... Exactly what he wanted.

And telling us you are a GM service manager..... You just COMPLETELY discredited ANYTHING you have to say about ANYTHING with Ls1's as far as I'm concerned. The vast majority know nothing but think they do, like yourself from what you have shown. There are a few out there but they are far and few between. That is not something you want to spread every chance you get on this board. That gives you ZERO credit on here because it means NOTHING.

If you liked good cars, you would like the 3.8. Do you know anything about them? They are practically bullet proof and like boost.

Also, why do you spell "would", "wooood"?
97 is NOT a 02! whole different world under that hood. SO go back to school and learn something.

You think they crippled the same engine in 5 years? The differences between a 97 and 02 V6 are pretty minimal.

Go back to tech school, let a real mechanic have your job.

Really? Thats odd....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrol...rth_generation)

Pay particular attention to the last sentence in year 2000.

Here is your mpg's... If you know anything you know these are rated under by a few mpg (usually 2-4mpg). If you know anything about the fbody world, you know this.

How about you do your research. If you think you learn about Ls1s (more advanced than how to type a part # into a computer) in High school, it shows where you got it!

Would you like to continue? Class is in session for the next hour.

The OP is right, that sixer was screwed up.

Do you honestly expect to convince the rest of us that your formi gets better mileage than a stock 6?

Depends on what you want to do and how much money you want to spend.

Summit, & Jegs won't have diddly for performance except for maybe a basic off the shelf grind.

Abbott Racing Heads has one of the best off the shelf NA cams for the F-body, it's something he's used for racing his V6 a few years back.

Look on the V6 boards like www.fullthrottlev6.com as there are sponsors there that specialize in the V6 community.

There are plenty of sponsors here on LS1tech that support the F-body platform in ways other than the engine. Most of the drivetrain and all the suspension will work on your car. I have more suspension work on my vehicle than many LSx cars will usually see in their lifetime. Most of it bought from LS1tech sponsors.

Dam right it does, buy one you'll see...........the 8 is MUCH more efficient, especially at part throttle low speed driving. Going up small grades etc.

So.... Did you not see my post?

I'm guessing since you were proved wrong with *fact you chose to ignore it and like I didn't post anything.
That and you have no facts and extremely little and concentrated experience working with this platform. I probably would have ignored it as well.
You have been made... I'm not going to clutter this thread up anymore.

My 98 V6 with the built motor and 4.10 gears got around 30 mpg on the highway and 22mpg on the streets.. My LS1 with the Built motor and 3.42 gears gets about 12-15 around the city and 20-24 on the highway..

I owned one........don't tell me to stop....I know bs when I hear it.

Funny thing is I really liked the car but the mileage and performance was so poor i had to sell it.

My wife hated the thing, every time she started it annd heard the exhaust she wooood ask me how such a beautiful car could sound so bad! So after one month and 1k in parts and oils etc I lost 5k and traded the "thing" In.

I know you owned one, I also know you're not the only person to have ever owned/driven a V6 fbody. You spout off your experience as being true for every single vehicle, and completely disregard the other facts that people have been presenting.

That's why I said stop. The only BS I'm seeing is coming from you.
