Default Need New Engine

1999 WS6. t56 tranny. all stock.
my engine needs a rebuild. but the quoted me $4800.
so i figure why not put a little more money and get a new more powerful engine.

LS6 and the 408 are looking pretty good.

Goals:
Drivability: this is a Daily Drive and will be for the new 5-10 years. it will be seeing 3 hr drives about 1 or 2 times a month back and forth from college

Gas Mileage: i know...its not a big deal but i would like to get 15+

425-500rwhp

cam...small smooth idle preferibly
and no nos
TSP, CrateEngineDepot, GMPerformance,...? others?

opinions? suggestion? examples? dyno results?

thanks

ls6 longblock and add a torquer v2 from tsp and some spray. 20+mpg and easily make 500whp with a 100shot.

He's got the right idea as I was looking into a similar setup.
LS6 LB with the right Cam and supporting mods should meet your goal of 420+

Very true and it all depends on how close you want to be to that magic number.
The reality is your looking for a Dyno number and those don't mean much in the real world. Track speed is a better indicator of real HP.

For the money (as a crate engine), as LS3 doesn't make enough power over an LS6. If you want a GM crate engine I'd go with an LS6. It is only 25hp down from an LS3 at 405hp vs the LS3 430hp. Going this route I would do the LS6 long block and our 230/236 cam.

If you want to spend LS3 crate engine money, let us build you a custom engine and get you more for the money. On that budget, I would spec you an iron block 408 with stock LS3 heads and intake with one of our custom cams. Since you want a smooth idle and smallish cam the LS3 heads make tons of sense, because they make their power with a much smaller cam than cathedral port heads.

If you have any questions or would like a quote just let me know, I'll help you out.

Jesse

Yeah, I guess you're right; you can get more power for the same or less money. For me, with this as a daily driver again, it would be nice to get 430hp with 28 mpg and stock dependability/drivability. We'll see if I can stick with that when the time comes...hehe...
