I have an 02 TA WS6 6 spd special collectors edition. I am changing the exhaust due to damage. I have about $1300 to spend. Little can be purchased after market on true duals and after contacting one large performance vendor I am wondering about the benefits/drawbacks to going to true duals vs performance "Y" pipe. The only mods I have in my vehicle Volant cold air intake and cut out in front of the axle.
I would appreciate any thoughts and experience. I do not intend on heavily modding this vehicle but a few would be nice.

I believe Kooks sells a true dual exhaust for our cars but you need to buy a few other parts to make it fit properly. I can't remember what they are. A cat back would be cheaper and probably easier to put on. SLP, Borla, and GMMG make some nice setups.

Seen Kooks...expensive but nice. $350 more for 2 added parts. Most others I have seen with dual have had it custom fit.
Looking for pro / con. Tech at Summit racing said dual would drop power at low end. That didn't make sense to me. I understand reasons for H or X crossover but never heard that Y pipe with split back end will produce better low rpm power.

Duals should give you power under the curve. For the money you have I would suggest TSP 1-7/8 SS headers to their true dual system and a lid.

Then get the Corsa Clone tips from 6LE:

You can dummy mount them under the rear bumper for looks with some L brackets and U clamps. I would contact user VinR1 as he made dummy tips look nice and I think he might even be selling kits to mount them now.

That should keep you under budget and give you a mean sounding car with some nice power addition. Just make sure that if you order the tips from 6LE that you get the 4" OD ones.

Suggest TSP SS 1 7/8" headers and their Y into a chambered type exhaust , should burn that $1300 nicely.

I would go with American Racing (ARH) 1-7/8 long tubes with their y-pipe and just relocate your cutout to where the Y merge bolts to the stock intermediate pipe. This will keep you tolerable (I know this is subjective) when you want, but nice and loud whenever you want to open the cutout. You'll also be able to retain the factor exhaust to give it a stealthy look.

The difference is that with any Y pipe setup between 2300-3000 RPM you have that crazy popping that sounds like your car spent too much time at Taco Hell

I just ordered the TSP true duals after having the TSP ORY and Rumbler catback on the car for around 2 months. Wishing I would have gone duals from the start.
