Default Magnaflow Muffler?

Just wondering what your guys thoughts are on the magnaflow muffler. Im saving for a cat back system but since im only 16 i cant afford a nice one at the time and dont wanna buy a cheap one. I decided magnaflow over flowmaster cause i have heard flowmaster mufflers are JUNK so please leave your opinion.....Not looking for performance just sound

What do you have? I am on a budget for exhaust and thought about magnaflow but am opting for an ebay true duel dumped under the axle. I don't like the raspyness of a y pipe. True duals with magnaflow sounds pretty nice. Check out ls1sounds.com for audio clips.

from the sound clips I've heard, the magnaflows are great, nice sound when you get on it and not to much louder then stock at idle, just be sure and get the full cat-back and not just a muffler.

I have a Magnaflow CB and it is mild, but has a good tone and zero rasp. I am getting ready to do headers, ORY and cam and I hope it to still control the sound nicely.

I have a 99 with OBX long tube headers and y-pipe with a Magna Flow cat back and LOVE the sound. I my opinion Magna Flow sound is deep not loud and raspy like some others. I would get a cat back if possible. I called Magna Flow direct and got a great price, but then searched part # on line and found a price match free s/h for like $525. But if the muffler is all you can afford then just go that route

Just one thing go with cats if not you WILL have the rasp around 3,000 RPM's. I went with OBX long tubes with resonators and others that have cats have no rasp. I'm going back to high flow cats soon.

I like my Flowmaster muffler on my 1999 TA. Some people say it doesn't flow well, but it sounds a lot better than stock. If you really don't care about performance I vote for the Flowmaster.

Okay first of all the Flowmaster is not junk, and secondly if you are going for purely sound then only you can determine what sounds best With that said listen to the dozens of clips on You Tube and whatnot to get an idea

Does it sustain the rasp past 3000, or is it just that specific RPM that is an issue?

That's what I have and I love the sound of the magnaflow. I too am getting ready to install Pacesetter LT's with an ORY, should sound good. Not the biggest fan of the raspy.

also, if on a budget, check the classifieds on here and watch for a good deal on a used cat-back.

Furious1 and Tipnitty, I run a Magnaflow with Pacesetter long tubes, ORY (with a FM merge) with heads, and a pretty big cam...I think you will like if you go that route! Very little rasp, nice deep tone, and screams at WOT

I think im going to have to go with the magnaflow the flowmasters have that metal plate welded in there and i feel like that would cause alot of restriction why not spend the extra 20 bucks haha?

No the rasp only seems to last through 3-4,000 RPM's @ wot is sounds awesome and others don't hear it from behind. I hear it from inside I think a lot of it comes from changing that flat pipe to a regular round one with the ory.
Good friend has same set up and mods with Magna Flow high flow cats and has No rasp at all. Others that don't run cats or resonators seem to complain of that sound in the same rpm zone. I fully believe the factory flattened that pipe for that reason because ground clearance is not a problem with some ory's. Mine is a three piece and fits very nice and tight with No rubbing what so ever on floor or ground
