97 WS6 VS 98 WS6 What would you do?
Ok guys,
Been looking for a while, looks like its gonna come down to 3 cars,
1997 WS6 M6 White 20k 11k
1998 WS6 Auto Red 70k 10k
2001 Ws6 Auto Wht 32k 12k
All are Trans Ams, loaded and "sposed to be in Excellent shape"
The 97 is local, and I'm going to look at on sunday, both the other cars are a long ways away, 98 is a private individual down south, 01 is at a dealer in Maine
the main comparison is the 97/98 pretty sure I can get the 97 for close to 10, so would you choose the 98 over it just because its a LS platform? thse are what Ive found to be the best options, so i am just curious what others would do, none of the cars are modded?

LS1 car hands down.
The 98s can be a pain in the *** with their 1 year computers, so if you plan on upgrades and tunes I would look for a 99+.
Also, decide if you want an auto or stick, and choose which nose you like better. I always liked the 98-02 nose better, but others like the 93-97.

I've always wondered long term if 96/97 WS6 cars will be worth more then 98-01, there production numbers are way lower, and there actual SLP cars, 02 will always be worth more "last year" ya ya ok, LOL

I love LT1's and LS1's. Had both, but hands down get the 01 White WS6 with 32k.
Low miles for a good price. 98's had some issues. So unless you are bent on a M6, get the 01. 01 will be way faster.

Thanks guys i honestly can't believe its this lopsided, gonna go touch.the lt1, both other cars are very far away, ive heard some interesting things on the 98 cars so i think im leaning toward the 97 or 01, but we are talking between taxes n travel a 3500ish swing, the ls car is that much more car?? And aroind 23k more on the clock, it is sposed to be unmolested, the 97 already has a.flowmaster, thats fine ill never take it to the track, im a cruise night guy.

LT1's have their merits and their place which few will give credit to, but when you're talking about cars within a small price difference (AND ALL OTHER THINGS BEGING EQUAL), the LS1 cars are a better buy IMO.
That being said, just simply because it's an LS1 doesn't mean its a better buy. Those LS1 cars could be ragged out (yes, even with low miles) and have had 6 different teenage owners. LS1 cars also suffer from weaker interior plastics (cracked dash panels, door panels, ash trays, console lids, ect are all extremely common issues which are not nearly as prevalent in LT1 cars). Also, with the 98-02 cars you get the good 'ol sail panel that likes to bubble the paint off due to the adhesive used in those years.
All things to consider, but all other things being equal on the cars the 01 would get my vote (Especially an 01-02 car with the LS6 intake).
All that being said, I'd take a mint 1 owner low miles LT1 car over a trashed 98-02 car any day of the week.
Inb4 more LS1 owners have Opti problems.
