Default 2000 "Fireturd" Build

I've recently acquired 2000 Pontiac Firebird T-Top 3.8 V6 POS (blown HG)

Plans:
LS1 or LQ4 swap
Beef up the 4l60
LT's
BTR Cam
243 Heads
Depending on year 2001+ intake or Fast LSX
Rim's/tires TBD

Parts needed (* will denote acquired parts) :
Motor/trans
LS1 K member
Radiator
Efans
Steering rack
Fuel Pump
PCM/ECU + Harness
Misc Hoses
Cluster
Gas Pedal

Buddy has an LS1 out of his WS6 with 160k on it and is going to give me the computer and trans with it for $1300 bucks.

Pics:

Being .mil I do not have the time to rebuild the motor myself (will be doing the swap myself). What am I looking at as far as a ball park for getting a short block rebuilt.

Really depends on your local shop and the shape of the motor being rebuilt. Your best bet is to call around to a few local shops and get an idea from them. Personally I would order a pre-built motor and go from there.

You should also look at finding a beat up or wrecked Ls1 car and pulling the parts from that instead of multiple places.

Got it,

Spoke with Mike Yaeger for 3 hours yesterday since his somewhat local. Basically told me to check compression and if theres no fluctuation then just roll with it. I am going to go with some 243 heads on it and cam it so that will take car of HG oil pump timing chain etc etc. I basically have a donor car with my buddys ws6 since hes going stand alone/408. I'm getting the motor, trans, pcm, wiring harness from him.

good looking build, and ya if the compression is ok id roll with it. dont forget you're going to need the ls1 k member, electric fans, and radiator, iirc the brakes are the same but I think the springs are different. also the gauge cluster and transmission mount and brace are different for an ls1

Got it, I plan on running coil overs in the front and slapping a trutrac in the rear. Going to run the transmission for now and send it off to FLT later.

Couldn't beat 800 bucks either, has a couple of cosmetic issues, dash is cracked for one and the DS head light housing is cracked and the gear is stripped. Plan on trans am front bumper and spoiler as well.

LT's
BTR Cam
243 Heads
Depending on year 2001+ intake or Fast LSX
Rim's/tires TBD

Parts needed (* will denote acquired parts) :
Motor/trans
LS1 K member Get a tubular K-frame
Radiator Get an LT1 radiator-a bit more cooling. Buy new so it's not clogged up inside
Efans Get from a junkyard or eekbay
Steering rack No need-same units V6 or V8
Fuel Pump Racetronics
PCM/ECU + Harness
Misc Hoses
Cluster
Gas Pedal These should be the same-cable's different

You should keep an eye out for a V8 rear end.

Great on the rear-it sounds like you're well on the way to doing a lot of work!

Did not know that about the gas pedal. Learned something new at 7:22 AM already.

Nice looking car, I like the color!

LOL, I am sure it's nice, I've never been, but my wife was born there...military brat. I was stationed in VA and never got a chance to wander down there.

Brett, done yet?
