How to tell if I have a WS6 w/out having a parts ID Sticker on drivers door?
I just recently bought a '99 Pontiac Trans Am and I'm curious to find out if I have a WS6? I have the ram air hood, the trans am front bumper (not the firebird or formula bumper) and the high rise spoiler; but for some reason it has a firebird rear bumper instead of the trans am bumper. I was going to check the parts RPO Code sticker on the drivers door but however, it does not have it. What are other ways I can tell? If I'm correct I believe the RPO code is "WS6" or something along those lines. Can anyone point out any other ways on seeing if the car is a WS6? Thank you.

I bought a 99 trans am almost a year ago that didn't have the rpo codes on the door and the guy claimed it was a ws6...I took the vin up to the parts dept I believe at my local gm dealership and they looked up and printed off all the rpo codes...unfortunately it wasn't a ws6....

Does it have side skirts and trans am on the doors? It'll at least be a trans am and not a formula most likely. Check for other WS6 specific things like high rise intake base, ws6 emblem, Hurst shifter.

the 5th digit will be a V if its Trans am or Formula, if it was a Firebird it will be a S. I know that does not help much ,best to call any GM dealer with the last eight digits of VIN , get option codes. Look for codes W66 Formula and Y82 T/A Coupe.

Yeah I checked the 5th digit on the vin and it came up as, "V" so I do have a Trans Am with a Firebird rear bumper. lol I will call my local parts department to find if they can print me the RPO codes to find out if I have a WS6 or not.

If you have a v6 rear bumper someone replaced it. Only the formulas got those ta's got a specific front and rear bumper with side skirts. You could also look for the raised airbox under the hood in addition to above. All those aren't def signs but you would have to be pretty dedicated to fake one that well

post some pictures of your car, the hood, engine bay under side of the car etc...if the car is still relatively stock most people here will be able to tell knock off parts or if something doesn't look factory original. For reference the WS6 in 98-02 got 17" polished aluminum wheels, ram air hood with raised air lid base, slightly larger cat back exhaust with polished tips, bigger sway bar, power steering cooler on the early years, (later on they all came stock with it) and of course the WS6 badge which is obviously missing with the wrong rear bumper.

Ancient thread loaded with misleading and useless info, but w/o the SPID decal on the driver's door, the only way to be 100% sure is to enter the VIN at CompNine.com (and pay a small price) to get the RPO list for that car, or take the VIN to a GM dealership and have them print out the RPO list for the car (assuming they still do that for 20+ y/o cars). Hoods, wheels, badges, raised airboxes etc. can all be easily swapped. So equipment on the car is not 100% proof.

Yep, excellent and accurate post as always. Only way to tell is the SPID or window sticker with matching VIN - otherwise your options are CompNine or GM dealer VIS report as mentioned above.
FWIW, I just had a local GM dealer run a report on a '98 C5 for me. I was looking for recall completion information and they had pretty comprehensive data on the car (though I didn't specifically get an RPO printout) so it looks like they keep this data pretty far back, at least for some models.
