1970 firebird trim tag decode ?????
has anybody ever tried to run the trim tag info on their firebird that was built after 1969? for some reason i can't seam to get any information from my car unless i go and spend money at phs or pay a fee. you can find out tons about the 67-69 but it seams that second gen info is tied up tighter than a snare drum. anyway if anybody could help me i would apreciate it. i have had the car for ten years and would like to know what it started life as.
it reads like this. (first line) st70 22387 nor 728006
(sec line ) tr216 43 43
(third line) 04b
i don't have the vin right off but i will get it tomorrow. like i said any help other than telling me it was made in norwood oh would be much apreciated

tr216 will be your interior code
43 43 is the paint code
04b is the build date (month, week, etc.)
not sure off hand what your numbers are but look on the web for second gen firebird decoding. Good luck

I found this out and should answer your questions.
http://www.paintcodes.net/pontiac-paint-codes-1970.html
43 43 is keylime green which was only used on the 70 firebird
As far as interior....here you go.

tr216 = trim is green knitted vinyl
04b may be Feb 4th....I am not positive on that one.
Good luck!

The 223 of your stated 22387 means it was the bottom of the barrel base firebird. the 87 is just the body style code which means 2 dr coupe. I was just chasing the info down myself as I found a 70 (same base model as yours) in someones backyard and needed to see what it was.

Ah, found some trim plate codes in a Paddock catalog I have.
04B means built in April (04) second week (B)
tr216 is the trim number meaning green vinyl interior, somebody already said that.
Your VIN is just going to give you stuff you already know year/model/plant/and sequence...

thank you guys for all the information. it was very helpful. i knew i didn't have a trans am on my hands. the weird thing about the car is that it has the 8k tach and 160mph speedo and is an original 4 speed car. i guess the guage cluster is easy enough to replace though. another guy on here who has the basic exact same set up told me that an esprit 350 with a 4 speed was actually pretty rare as far as production numbers go. i guess that is like having a rare six cylinder car. it doesn't matter though really because i love the car and almost nothing will be stock on it anyway when i am done. wish i could put an ls1 in it but i have a rebuilt pontiac 400 and muncie for it so that would be a little silly. maybe when i blow the motor i will do the swap. it is at the body shop right now having the quarter panel fixed from where some backwoods body guy layed over an inch and a half of bondo on it. i didn't find that till i was stripping the car to metal. everything else is really straight though so i am happy. thanks guys.
