Question 2010 Camaro or G8 GXP

I have been having this discussion with a friend and we both can't decide what car would be the best for resale value. Between the two cars, the 2010 Camaro SS and the G8 GXP. What car do you guys think would hold its value the best? To us the main argument for the GXP is its limited production around 1,800 is all there is and all there will be. And well, the SS speaks for itself. The reason for this discussion is what would be the best car to buy now that would have the best resale value in a couple years in case they do bring out the Z28. So what do you think? I'm going to post this in both the G8 forum and 2010 Camaro forum.

I did not buy based on resale value but now that I am considering it I would think that both will have a poor resale simply because of the horrible economy. I do not think either of them will differ too much for the next 20 years. But in time, say 30 years, when these cars are collectors items, then I think the GXP will hold the most value because of rarity while the Camaro will hold a good value for popularity.

In all honesty, people will know what the Camaro is because of its legacy and probably pay more for it. The GXP doesn't have a legacy and most people won't even know they exist in 10 years due to low production. The only thing it has going for it is the fastest production pontiac ever so you can capture true Pancho fans. Other than that I am not sure who else would want this car in 30 years....

No current production car will be in restorative condition in 30 years unless it is kept away from light or you are going to custom make each piece of the car that is plastic. Good luck having a late model vehicle 30 years from now.

Agree to disagree.

GXP, at this very moment, is going up in price. Since only about 1800 were made, it should hold it's value.

G8 GT

Its as fast the Camaro (A6), with a few mods the GT is as fast as M6.

Save the $10K off the GXP and make 500 hp for half that.

I have friends with 3 SS's. To me the Camaro's are nice weekend cars the G8's are nice daily drivers. This opinion is because of side and rear window size, blindspots, and the backseats. just my opinion, I wouuldn't want to drive a 5th gen everyday.

i am debating the same thing. the camaro is a real head turner and has the camaro "legacy". the g8 is low key as hell but still packs a punch. very respectable ride that wont get you sometimes unneeded attention.

prices are right in line with each other if that is a factor. check out pontiac.com and print out the quoted price online. they are required to honor that price, which is about $5-6k off sticker.

Even though I am a diehard camaro fan, I would go for the G8 simply because it is the fastest and last pontiac ever made.

I think the plastic will hold up much better than the plastic used from the 1950-1970's. It is more tolerant to the sun etc. I had 1997 GMC pickup that I owned from brand new until 2006 and the interior basically looked like new other than the center console cloth looked little worn. I beat the hell out of that truck traded it in with 173k on the odometer. Both the paint and the interior looked great and that was a well worn 10 year old truck. So, I think modern materials will hold up well. The problem will be if anyone will make reproduction parts...I think the new Camaro will have a crap load of exterior/interior parts etc, but the G8 will be hard to come by spare parts that are not mechanical.

As far as collector value, hard to say. If we go down the road of highly fuel efficient vehicles both of these should have collector value as some examples of the last muscle car war of the Big Three. The camaro will be more popular to own so it might pull more money. The G8 GXP is going to be for the collector who either owned one at one time, or just knows his stuff and wants one in his garage. I think the M6 GXP's will probably be the most "valuable" of the G8's simple because of the rarity of a 6spd manual. Whether that is a $3500 beater or a 90K Barrett-Jackson piece who knows. Enjoy them now and keep all the stock parts for later.
