Default Service oil message: HELP!!

So I just had my oil changed a couple weeks ago, all was well and fine until tonight, I was driving home (up hill) when my service oil/oil problem Icon popped up on my HUD, I quickly pull into the next gas station and check the oil level... all seems well and topped off, look under the car nothing... oil is clean looking smells fine, I didn't drive it too much further, I looked at my manual and it shows how to reset the oil light, I went thought that process and it shut the message off and it has not come back on since.... so anyone have this happen? what could it be? honestly I just don't know enough about these things so I have to ask you guys... thanks much app.

Mine did the same thing tho other day. Just push the pedal to the floor like 2 or 3 times i believe and then start the car. That should clear it (like you've probably already done). Should just be a false alarm. I would check your oil levels a couple times a day for the next few days just to have peace of mind tho. Goodluck

The oil service light is triggered by a monitoring system performed by the ecm. It calculates the approximate time for an oil change based on a variety of things, mileage, speed, driving habits etc. If you changed the oil recently it wouldn't "know" you have and will still give you a reminder... It's just performing it's typical cycle. They're more of an annoyance than anything IMO, reset it and forget it.

the shop I went to today actually reset the light, and I have a hookup there, so a complete full synthetic oil/filter change only cost me 20 bucks and a half hour of time.

Hell I paid $95 for my first oil change. Mobile 1. After that I said screw this and started doing it myself for around $35. And yes that reminder alert is annoying.

I actually do have the manual yes, I used it to shut the light off but wasn't sure if that was just masking the problem.

Owners manual: also known as gm's little book of magical secrets. Lol at least that's what we call it at the dealership.
