Default A couple of questions

I'm in the market for another car after the first of the year. I really want a G8, but don't want to pay that much. First, can a 6'4" guy drive one of these easily? Lots of leg room or not. And I guess the 04's came with the 5.7 and 05-06 came with the 6.0? I am wanting a stick. Any major problems with these cars. It will be daily driven, probably never see a dragstrip. I have a 94 Firebird with a v6 and 303,000 miles. I fit good in this car, but have had it a long time, time to trade up.

There's plenty of room. A test drive even if at a dealership should confirm that for you. Like any car there are some that had issues but I'd have to say that most of the major ones aren't horrible, just annoying. I've been an owner of my '04 for almost 7 1/2 years and the only issue I've had is the passenger's door actuator going out. That was 5 years ago under warranty. The issues I've seen pop up over the years (remember most people don't post every couple of months their car is fine but do when there's an issue) are weak rear springs, ignition lock sticking, bad front radius rod bushings and collapsed front strut bushings. All are fairly easily corrected. I really liked upgrading my shifter to a GMM Ripshift FWIW.

I guess the 05-06 with the 6.0 would be the one to buy rather than the 5.7?

The only real issue with the cars that is inevitable is strut rub. The bushings colpase in the strut top mounts and the front radius rods, most cars already have these replaced. If you buy one and they need to be replaced, they are available for under $300 for both sets and will make the car feel a lot better from a driving standpoint.

The factory shifter is absolute junk unless you're a fan of the "knife in the mustard jar" feel. haha

I'm also running the GMM Ripshift.

these cars are amazing.. im 6'2 myself and constantly drive with my combat boots on which another 2 inches.. plenty of room in them.. even in the back seats.. the main problems with the cars have been stated above.. so no point repeating them.. it nice to have the power of a muscle car and yet not have every single cop stare at u as u go by like u do with trans ams and camaros.. i daily drive my 06 6spd and love every min of it..

I'm 6'4" and fit more than comfortably in mine. A buddy of mine is 6'6" and he fits fine too, lol.

You'll love it. I've put 70,000 miles on my GTO and I have enjoyed the car more than any other vehicle I've owned, honestly.

Don't dismiss the G8 entirely though. If you find one at a decent price, they're a hell of a car too! I love both of them, lol.

I love my GTO and I am 6'5". It has plenty of leg room. But it kinda depends on the quality. I have a couple of friends with 04's and one of them have went threw about 6 rear ends. But he is pretty hard on his car and it has went to the track several time. I have had only one problem with mine it has been the gauge cluster messing up. I would recommend you getting on ls1gto.com and do some reading.
