Default GTO failure

Went to the track Sunday and on my third run my clutch pedal went soft. Fluid is full only 40,900 miles on original clutch. First time I've driven the car hard.
I can row the gears without using the clutch.

What could be the issue?

Clutch went limp after I made my pass.

MODs:
Tsp 228r cam
7.400 rods
.650 springs
Tune
~100 miles on cam parts

Full exhaust & volant cold air

After doing some googling on 'master cylinder' that seems to be my issue. Is there a easy how to write up on swapping it out? Car is at my work and I new to now if I can change it out easily or have it towed to a shop (SNL in dfw)

Master Cylinder is a band aid especially if you actually run your car. I would swap out the stocker for an ls7. Last time I checked, ls7 clutch and flywheel were only around 500 bucks from gm parts wherehouse website. I had clutch issues when I was at stockish power levels. I went with the ls7 left the stock master cylinder in and all the issues went away. I recently installed a procharger and put down 501 to the rear wheels and am still running the ls7 with the stock master cylinder. I know eventually this clutch will wear out and I will replace it with a twin disc, but it is still holding strong for now. Upgrading the master cylinder is a good idea, but if your having issues I would do the clutch first then the master cylinder. Just my 2cents.

I think the clutch is bad not the master. Make sure you replace slave while in there.

I will be going with the ram clutch from texas-speed. I have a ram powergrip in my 5.1 supercharged mustang and It has been holding power really well. I will be replacing everything. oem pilot bearning, tob/slave and a tick master cylinder along with the clutch.

I wont be racing the GTO anymore and I will just leave it for a daily and race the mustang.

Ill be out of town working for a month or two so I will have it towed to a shop and have them fix it.

What Clutch are you/did you go with?

I've heard good and terribad about monster, great things about McLeod, and mediocre things about the LS7.

The LS7 is a great buy for drivability, but might not take a beating by high HP motors.

I had the opposite issue: After beating on it, I couldn't get the car into gear with the clutch pedal in unless it was at the right rpm. A twin disk monster clutch, stainless clutch line, and new slave fixed my issues.

I went with a Monster stage 1, braided clutch line, monster slave, remote bleeder, etc.
I wanted to go with a Ram but the shop only installs monster..

I called Chevy and the parts guy( co workers step dad) and he said the LS2 and LS7 clutch showed the same part numbers. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

The 07 LS2 clutches are the same as the Z06s. But it's 10lbs heavier than the one in there now..

The master cylinders are a bitch to take out and install new one. I just had to do this with my Tick performance one as the seal was slightly leaking.

I was told not to waste money on a tick master.
