Question Wheel Hop at Track

My buddy has the 04 GTO and is expericencing wheel hop when he launches the car. It is a m6 and he has tried different rpm and launch techniques. Any help or sugestions will be helpful. This is stock for now and need to stop the wheel hop.

On the street there is very little wheel hop but at the track it's driving us crazy.

Thanks in advance

i've gathered that some have had the TSB performed (bushing and bolts); others installed SLP bushings (not sure which ones), and some are using a new differential cover(harrop)...all of which are claiming to help or fix wheel hop problems...

He needs to bring it out harder. I suffered from the same thing. Incredible amounts of wheel hop that feels like the rear will blow right out of the car. Brought the rpm up more and now it lauches great. Used to hop to 2.1, now its 1.9-2.0 and just a chirp. ET has been reduced .2-.3 because of no hop.

I'd start at 2500 and go from there. Not really dumping but really fast on the gas and clutch pedals. Have to experiment to get the best results. FWIW, I'm running 30psi in the tires also.

Well the TSB is performed by the dealership free of charge but only if you can get them to fix it. IE: You have to know what to complain about. SLP bushings shouldnt be expensive, under $100 I bet, and would be the better bet. The Harrop differential cover is $480 or so and requires a bit more technical skill and time but from what i've heard, it is well worth the money and effort if you drag race the car frequently.

that wheel hop happened to me once. was driving a dealer car to a local college for the marketing class. we took 1 GTO, 2 G6's, 1 Vibe, and 1 Grand Prix. i had the GTO for the trip there. i drove it somewhat within the limit. then when the street opened up i let it go. when i went from 1st to 2nd i felt like the car was going to come apart. figured wheel hop was some sort of a problem but don't know if others have had this occur to them till now.

The TSB doesn't quite fix wheel hop, it get rid of the noise, the rear control arm hitting the body I think.

To fix wheel hop, SLP rear sway bar, Harrop diff cover (has dual diff mounts) their are some kits in australia that are really stiff bushings for the rear control arms.

Basicly to make the ride comfortable for 'most' people, they used soft rubber bushings and mounts that are lacking in the firm department. No doubt those who dont mind a more harsh ride can upgrade and eliminate a great deal of the problem.

Bushings, 2004 GTO Sway Bar Link (set of 8)

An SLP exclusive, these bushings replace the stock rubber pieces to significantly reduce flex, sway, and wheel hop during cornering and hard acceleration. All bushings are made from low-deflection K-Prene polyurethane and come in a distinctive SLP maroon.

Sway Bar, 2004 GTO Rear, Heavy-Duty

New from SLP, this heavy-duty rear sway bar is an easy, cost-effective way to improve the traction and handling characteristics of any 2004 GTO. Constructed from 19.05mm (stock is 16mm) cold-drawn steel, it can yield noticeable reductions in both wheel hop and rear body roll during spirited driving. Two end-link mounting points on each side make it possible to preload the rear suspension for improved launches in drag-race applications. Includes low-deflection K-prene bushings.

NOTES: Not compatible with SLP #73005 Rear Sway-Bar Bushings.
