Default Quick ? about the GTO shifter

Forgive me if this has already been beaten into the ground....

On M6 GTOs, i've heard the shifter is very loose and the throws are long. Does a short shifter more or less remedy this? I'd like to hear some opinions on this.

I'm a fan of the stock shifter...but I've also heard complaints.

The stock shifter is very rubbery feeling. When you take it apart, you'll understand why. Its not mounted to the trans but uses a lever to do the shifting. The GMM Ripshift, B&M, and custom made SLP shifter are far and away better. I had the SLP first and liked it better than a buddies B&M. Then went to the Ripshift and never looked back.

yes! a million times over yes!!! an aftermarket shift is a world of difference! go with the GMM ripshift and NEVER look back... I had the B&M, but dumped it for the GMM and the only thing im dissapointed with is that i wasted money on the B&M the first time!

Stock shifter does have long throws but the feel of it is greatly improved if you swap the tranny fluid to Royal Purple. One of the local guys bought the GMM shifter for $300 then drove my car with the stock shifter and RP and said he wasted his money.

We are the US distributor for the GMM Ripshift, we've been importing them for over a year now with 150+ units on the road in the US. The demand is high and it is a low production item. As the volume goes up we have been able to lower the price as GMM would like to stay very competitive with the US shifters. We currently sell them for $299.99. They are not currently in stock and the backorder list is no that long right now. The wait time currently is one week, after a few more orders the wait time becomes 3 weeks as we are close to selling out for the batches that are on the way.

In 4 years, do you think the price will go down?

Seeing a $300 pricetag for an upgrade, the stock shifter looks that much better. I'll spend my $300 elsewhere.

It has gone down...was $400...then $350...now $300. I don't think it gets any better than that.

If you aren't afraid to do a little work, you can get very similar results using a shifter designed for an F body. I have less than $100 in my Hurst Billet Plus in my GTO.

We import them from Australia and we have done our best to keep costs down but unless GMM changes the way they manufacture them.

I think you'll find that 99.9% of the people suggesting you stick with the stock shifter have never driven an aftermarket shifter. About the only thing the stocker has going for it is that its quiet. Beyond that, the GMM (IMO) is a MUST with this car. The installation is a PITA compared to an F-body, but its very doable with the right tools and some patience and then you'll never look back.

I don't think we'll see that anytime soon. The GMM is awesome. I bought in at one of the higher price points and haven't regretted it at all. For those of you who are worried about the price for a quality product, just make sure you post up after you miss 3rd gear a couple times with the stocker.

I (unfortunately) still have the stock shifter. Have tried several friend's GMM units and can't say enough good things about 'em. Am currently stashing money from the wife to get this part.....
