Default Vararam OTRCAI for GTO

I finally got an OK to show a couple of pics now. Keep in mind that this is nowhere near a production piece. This is just a prototype. This is also just one piece of the two that will make it into production. One piece (the piece shown here) will house the filter, and the other piece that is being designed now will connect to the base and go up and above the radiator and pull from in front. The filter is the same 4" filter that they use for the C6 Corvette. They want it to be able to support over 600rwhp naturally aspirated if possible and keep temps to within 10 deg. above ambient or better. As you can see the MAF is being used without any problems, and so far the drive-ability has been excellent.

So, I see it sticks up a bit higher than where the radiator shroud should be, does this mean removing the scoop plugs will give it some ram effect, or is it not far enough back?

Did you read the post at all? It will pull air from the front when finished. There are two parts to this intake, the other part is in the design stage now. It will go up above the radiator to draw air from the front. This is also just a prototype piece. The production piece will look similar but will be vastly more refined.

Of course the maf fits. Look how far back the Tb is with that aftermarket intake you posted. With a stock intake, the TB is even with the power steering reservoir (not my car, but I have the same DMS intake):

And looking at your pic again, the neck of that Vararam looks like it sticks out even further than the DMS, so I don't see how you will squeeze a maf in there with a factory intake manifold. You already have to trim it with the DMS.

You need to look again. there is a 4 1/2" spacer between the TB and the MAF to put it in exact position a stock TB would be.

Don't know much about the DMS, but I do know the Vararam prototype will fit w/ a MAF & a stock intake. Another thing you have to consider is this is just a PROTOTYPE. This is in no way the finished product. There will be other test vehicles with stock intakes and others with numerous aftermarket modifications. This is just the first step in getting a preliminary design out, & testing it to see how it functions.

So is this going to fix both the LS1 and LS2? I'd certainly buy one if it will go on an 04. I've got one of the fastest NA 04s so I'd make a good test subject for them to measure results with.

Vararam makes a great intake for C5 and C6 models. I'am eager to see the final product as well as hope for the same results as Vette's see if thats the case; hopefully.

A very nice peice regardless, IMO.

Thanks for posting

Another intake to keep an eye out for is from one of our sponsors Cunningham Motor Sports located in lake elsinore ca. He is also working on a similiar intake that should be coming out soon. I have seen some pictures of the prototype on his car and it looks pretty good as well.

It may be the angle of the pic, but it does not look to me like it is in the same location as the stock setup. The neck of this intake is obviously longer than the DMS, I can see that, and the DMS gives pretty much the smallest amount of space you can have and still use the maf (after cutting it). Don't get me wrong, I'm glad someone here is finally developing another otrcai and I hope it's everything you say. I have been known to be wrong before lol
