Default Time Attack Miata Project

I bought this Miata in Sept 2011 for a DD and Racer. I had to get something else besides my truck for gas mileage. I also have beside the Miata is a 2008 High Dune Buggy, 1993 240sx and a 2002 Silverado Z71 which I'm about to sell. So after about 2 months of looking for other engine options for the miata to use on the track, like the miata 1.8L, 350z engine, SR20 LS? and so on... I finally am going with a L33 and a T56. The car will never see straight line racing, only curves including mountain passes.

I don't have an engine yet, but right now I'm working on Ultra Shield racing seats and a roll cage.

The mods I have right now is
Engine: Stock 1.6 Besides intake...so stock
Suspension: Racing Beat sway bars and lowering springs
Drivetrain: 7 Lbs Flywheel/ACT clutch
Wheels/Tires: Enkei RPF1 15x7/ 225/45R15 Nitto NT01

30mm ammo shell with laser etching of gears

My wheels and tires

205 vs 225

Fitment on the wheels

I put the Mazda hub cap on it LOL

Im in Clovis but I will be here for about an Year. On Aug 4 I will be racing in Alb which is the same track in the videos. I was planning on racing down there.

Instead of using a T56 I will be using a T5 due to its cheaper price and weight.

I weighted the car at 2100 lbs exactly and with the swap I want to keep that weight around the same

SnowmanLC What made you choose the LQ4, the reason im asking is the L33 is $1000 with a 2 year warranty and shipped to your door.

Yeah i want to keep the wieght as close to 2000 as possible. Im looking at a 1990 in el paso right now that im trying to get hope fully in the next week. i have an lq4 block with port n polished ls6 heads milled with bigger valves, tsp tsunami cam, ls6 intake manifold, and im going to fab some custum 1 7/8in long tubes for it. hoping for 440rwhp. Are you going to fab the swap kit or get it from flyin miata? im thinking of buying just there sub frame and fabbing all my own mounts and such

I have herd some good stuff about V8Roadsters and the excellent techs they have to help out. 400 plus is a lot, I would start with a stock engine then put more mods as I get used to the torq.

with a 2200 lbs MX-5 is equal to weight to power ratio

MX-5 HP..........................................Car its equal to
310 hp.............................................201 2 GTR 530hp
345 hp.............................................201 1 Z06 505hp
355 hp.............................................201 2 GT2 523hp

I can't tell if the Miata is running a 41mm offset wheel or a 35mm offset wheel.

In one offset there is a wider wheel in the 949 6UL at 15 x 7.5 42mm.

In another offset there is a wider wheel in the Enkei PF01 at 15 x 8 35mm.

I am currently have 15x7 +41mm with 225 Nitto NT01, but after the V8 swap it will have the 6UL's 15x9 with 275/35R15

The 275/35-15 goes on the 15 x 10 25mm. It requires a real flared fender installation, coilovers for inner clearance, and car lowering of more than 1.5".

The 225/45-15 goes on the 15 x 9 36mm. It requires coilovers for inner clearance, the rear inner fender lips bent upward, and car lowering of about 1.5".

The 225/45-15 also goes on the 15 x 8 36mm. It requires the rear inner fender lips bent upward and car lowering of about 1.5".

Of course the 225/45-15 goes on the 15 x 7.5 42mm with very little car lowering needed. (The car lowering tucks the tops of the tires.)

Well, the V8 Miata might want tire diameter. There are 245/35-17 street tires in R1R and 452 and 225/40-17 r-comps in Hoosiers. The wheel is a Work XSA 02C in 17 x 8.5 40mm. Or try RacerPartsWholesale.com for a custom SpinWerks. Also, there's an AD08 in 215/40-17 for a street tire with an 8.2" tread width.

Interesting. I've toyed with the idea of tossing the LS1 i'm pulling from my SS into my 93' LE later on down the line. I'd love to see the progress of your build.

Since it is the end of the racing season for me since I'm going on a 4 month deployment. Next year I will not racing due to saving up on the V8 swap. Here are the prices for the swap so far.

L33............................................... ...........$1,000
T5 Transmission .........................................$2,200
V8 Roadsters Conversion kit..........................$1,950
Aluminium Oil pan.........................................$825
V8 Roadsters driveline kit..............................$2,150
Miata V8 radiator and hose kit........................$625
V8 Stage 1 Flyin` Miata airflow kit (fans)..........$335
CTS Getrag Rear diff.....................................$500

It will still weigh around 2100-2200 lbs and have 350 lb/ft torq and I will run 275/35R15 tires. In the list of stuff there isn't an exhaust and other things which I can't think of right now or don't know the price. The exhaust will be a single 3"-3.5" pipe going to the center of the bumper from Burn Stainless. I will make a foam copy of the rear diffuser below (C6 GT3 Diffuser $1500) then make a mould to do a carbon rear diffuser.
