alot of ppl make them on this site, keliente...or how ever she spells it, made her own box and a few others have made boxes or just had a cover up peice so that you could see teh tunnel hump, depends on how you like it. i prefere the tunnle hump, but that's me....and way cheaper/faster to make your own.

When I removed the seats, I took the rear mats and placed them over the holes that the seats left. It looks pretty good, and you can hide stuff under the mats. People always ask me if the car came without back seats.

You should highly consider making your own, because $100 or whatever they charge is a lot of money for some plywood and screws.

I made mine in an afternoon...it's 1/2" plywood and automotive carpet. It is VERY sturdy. I have had two wheels & tires sitting on it just fine, and often throw groceries/etc back there as well.

That's a REALLY nice looking job there Keliente, any chance you would be willing to do a write up on it? I'm really interested in doing this pretty soon since it's such a cheap, yet noticeable mod.

the rear seats can't weigh that much...

i'm not sure i understand the purpose of ditching them and replacing them with weight again

the seats plus the seat belts weigh i think 40 pounds? not sure correct me if im wrong. the rear seat delete kit weights maybe 10 pounds? for some its a weight thing, and for others like myself. its an apperrance thing, simply just for looks. i also dont like to chauffer people around, so thats another reason i did it

That wasn't the point of mine.

I was dying for t/a seats (I have a camaro). Couldn't find a complete set for a reasonable price, or they were the wrong color, or in shitty condition...a local seller had a set of front ebony seats, so I bought those. I had a big car show/get together though the next weekend, and didn't want to leave it bare, nor leave the stock safari cloth seats in it...thus, my rear seat delete kit was born.

It is lighter than the seats, if only by a few lbs or so. You could put things under it for storage if you wanted...like I said though I just made it because I was in a pinch.

I haven't done a how to because there isn't much to say about it.

I first went to Lowe's and bought a big sheet of that blue foam insulation, 1/2" thick. It works great for a template, because you can sit in the car with a razor and cut away at it until it fits right. It is also rigid enough that it won't bend or crease.

I made one template for the top, and one for the bottom (the area that goes over the tunnel).

When I was satisfied, I traced them onto 1/2" plywood and cut them out, and joined them together. You need to leave enough room in your measurements to allow them to overlap (top over bottom, or bottom over top, whatever you like). I put a little strip of 1x1 wood in between them to make it easier to screw together (otherwise drilling into 1/2" plywood SUCKS).

After that, I took a piece of carpet that was roughly the right size, and began to staple it to the back of the delete, cutting off excess as I went. Finally I had to dye it to match my interior since the carpet was light gray. I used a fabric dye from pep boys and added coats until it was the right shade.

I never did secure it down, although you could do it simply by making a bracket that would bolt up to the bottom area where the bucket seats do. Mine never moves around though so I was never motivated to finish it.

I don't have exact measurements, because it will vary from car to car, depending on how your interior sail panels lay. Using the blue foam is the quickest way to get a working pattern....

Mine are out because there is NO WAY anyone can get to them with the roll cage in. Something like what keliente did would be a good alternative to give a nice clean look. I've been debating something similar.

Especially using plywood, it would be very easy to adapt to fit a rollcage.

Also it's a reason to never have to give people rides

Here are some photos of the underneath. I told you, it is very simple and to the point.

They have the same interior but sometimes the sail panels lay differently...hence why I said it's easier to just make your own and trim it to fit perfectly.
